I generally wear the Pearl Izumi 3D Microsensor short, and have been very pleased. I was getting ready to order a pair and I see they make a “Bib Short”. Since I have never worn a bib short I wondered what they are like?? Is it more of a winter item, or can you wear them in the summer too?? Are they comfortable?
Thanks,
HC
Bib shorts are the best there is. Garden variety models are not season specific.
Do you wear a jersey over it?? Are they hotter?
Yes. Not really.
Bibs are the way to go. Try the Santini Twist Gels 2005 model. I find them to be much better than the Pearl Izum on long rides. I purchased mine from www.Bicyclinghub.com
No I do not work there!
Good luck!
they are warmer b/c they cover more body, but outside, not significantly.
in our gym where there is no ventilation, it’s too hot to wear a bib, but i hardly notice a difference outside.
They really keep everything in place and they take the pressure off your lower back.
Bibs rock! Love not having a waistband digging in! Seems like they are made to wear a jersey over them. Bibs make for longer pee breaks for the ladies…but worth it on the road. Off road, I stick to shorts for that reason.
I guess I’m in the minority, but I don’t like bibs. They make me sweat in the midsection. I guess they’re OK for guys, who are more streamlined in their body structure, but for a girl, they aren’t as comfortable as shorts and jersey.
I have the Assos and santini’s and love them both, when I race h/im distance I swim in the bibs. I do where a jersey over them and do not really notice any addtional heat.
I dig bibs. I have a pair each of PI and Castelli, both are very good.
They are particularly good for mtb’ing. Because, you have the bib “suspenders” pulling up on them, hence you tend to snag yer shorts on the nose of the saddle much less often when doing technical maneuvers. Nothing worse than getting caught on the nose, and having to try to survive like that until you come to a stop (one way, or the other…)
I would never wear them for any sort of race, as you never know when nature will call, and of course it’s much more involved answering that call w/ bibshorts on.
Don’t care for bibs myself. I’ve worn them, and most I find that the straps are too short. And I’m not all that tall and thin.
Bibs just get rid of the elastic waist band in regular shorts and use shoulder straps to hold the shorts up. Many folks, me included, find them much more comfortable than regular shorts - especially on longer rides. My favs are the Voler bibs - something like $50 a pair.
Once you wear bibs (I wear Pearl Izumi) you will likely never go back to shorts.
love bibs, hate going to the bathroom.
some fit better than others. i love sugoi shorts but for some reason the bibs dig into me the wrong way.
I wear bibs. They’re good. They hold your package tight.
Is that a good thing?
