Bianchi Crono TT bike

Does anybody have and experience with the Bianchi Crono time trial bike? I love my Daytona AL road bike so I thought I would look into their TT Bike for triathlon.

From BianchiUSA.com

“Wind-cheating time trial frame, battle-tested by Team Bianchi. Aerodynamic profile for use with 700C front and rear wheels. A Bianchi DB Lite Alloy frameset tweaked for time trialing. MegaPro Evolution oversized downtube. Aero seat tube contoured for rear wheel clearance. Pressedin headset. Brazed-on front derailleur mount. Bianchi Reparto Corse SL carbon, 1 1/8” alloy steerer fork. Single bottle mounts. Takes 27.2mm seat post. 55cm weighs 1.525kg.”

Thanks

Dave

I’m assuming that this is the bike that Jan used in the '03 TdF. If so, what’s with the horizontal grips hyperextending the wrists? Will that really save any time? It seems to me that this bike wouldn’t be good for tris, because TT bikes have slacker seat tube angles than tri-specific bikes, as far as I know. Regardless, I wouldn’t want to do anything longer than a sprint with my wrists bent like that.

that’s the bike, right?

Nope. The bike pictured above is a rebadged Walser (www.walser-cycles.ch). You get Bianchi’s own here:

The “hyperextended wrists” provide extra leverage, so it says, that get you to put more of your trunk to work.
Both bikes (Walser and Bianchi) are slacker than “pure” tri bikes - in the 74-75 deg range, I think. So for all you forwarders it may not be such a cool thing.

The seat tube angle is 74.5, HT angle of 71, and fork rake of 43mm in the with a 54cm top tube in the 55cm size.

The rest of the geometry is here:

Incidentally, i’ve heard in the press over here that the Bianchi bike isn’t a rebadged Walser at least not those used from the Vuelta onwards as Bianchi have been developing their own frame (which looks a little too close to the Walser) which Jan and the top boys in the team had been testing.

I’ve read the same thing and I’m pretty sure the press is wrong - they are just trying to spare Bianchi some embarassment.

Those are not ITM aerobars, either, as they look like Walsers, down to the super cool brake levers (made of carbon, of course).

I want to kick this frame review back up for discussion in the forum. I have a 1999 Bianchi MegaPro Tri-bike. Frame size is 57cm seat tube with a 54cm top tube (650C wheels and 77 seat tube angle). I’m 6’ with long legs and short torso. The Bianchi Crono 57cm TT bike with a 55cm top tube (700C wheels and 74 seat tube angle) looks like it would fit me just right. I’d like some expert opinions on what I’m over looking between these 2 frames and also how big of a difference would my ride be in moving from a 77 to 74 seat tube angle. My big race this year is Ironman Canada and I’ll also be doing Wildflower and Muncie as I prepare for IMC.

actually, speaking anatomically (recall the famous davinci drawing . . . . . . . ) i believe jan’s wrists are adducted, not hyperextended.

Ulnar deviation is the more accurate term.

what he said.
