Assuming racing during the IM build period is used as an intensity training day, what would the STr’s recommend for IMCDA? Powerman Ohio or Columbia triathlon (OD). Both are 5 weeks out from CDA and would be at the end of big build weeks. Any thoughts?
Answer: Since the races are nearly equal in physical stress, whatever race you can do with the least amount of travel and logistic-stress is going to be better for you.
Question: If you are looking for an intense training day are you going to treat the race as training? If so my advice is to stay home and swim,bike,run your guts out. It’s cheaper and more productive. If this is going to be a race though I would say go to the simplest one and kick it up!

PS - neither of these races in performance will have any real relationship to how you do in the IM. Is your attitude stable enough to give a good effort and still be somewhat detached from the result because you real focus is on the IM? You have to be sure because this type of race can ruin you if you do poorly. Also when you are talking about intensity and build phases remember that (unless you are very advanced) as I believe it was Gordo who wrote “duration will trump intensity.”
