Beta blocker 1/2 life?

What I have been experiencing over time, as I work out more is that in the morning my HR just will not go as high as in the afternoon. For example, when I worked out on Saturday, around 2:00 to 3:00, I managed to get my HR up to about 140. Then Sunday I rode on the trainer, tough workout but HR maxed at 127. Legs tired out, lots of heavy breathing.

I have noticed this in the past as well but just figured I was tired. That wasn’t the case this past weekend.

As I take my meds in the evening, likely around 9:30 or 10:00 the evening before said 127 HR workout, I started to think that maybe it was the meds that were keeping my HR suppressed.

While I am on other meds, the Beta Blockers were specifically prescribed to keep my HR max down (and they have done that).

I do have an appt with a physician coming up so I’ll ask at that point but thought I’d ask on here first. When I read the literature on Beta Blockers they seem to have a pretty short half life so that somewhat refutes my claim.

I used to only work out in the evenings but am now staring to do some in the mornings (well, other than a few swims but I don’t check HR swimming). So want to be able to keep the same pace in the morning that I do in the afternoon.

I have been on beta-blockers for 2.5 yrs now after my heart attack and 2 stents. I have a hard max on my heart rate which means that I have to really pay attention to the timing of my workouts in relation to when I take my pills. Without the beta blockers I reach my max too easily and don’t get a good workout. I take them breakfast and dinner. I find that it takes about 1 hr to 1:30 for them to kick in full strength and then they have about 5 hours when they really impact and then fall off pretty quickly after that. I do play with the timing of them a bit, probably more than I should. I will take them earlier on mornings I train before work and then a little later if I workout at noon. I never workout after work because they have completely lost their efficacy by then.

I am just back to tris again after 19 yrs away. I did Miami 70.3 and found that my heart rate was really creeping up half way into my run despite the fact I was running very slow.
