Best Way to get from O'Hare Airport (Chicago) to Downtown?

Taxi? If so how much?

I don’t think there is a good way.

Specifically: I’ve made the trip from Detroit to Chicago many times since my sister lived there driving. About 4.5-5 hours.

Flying from Metro Airport in Detroit to O’Hare in Chicago took about 40-45 minutes. The pilot has to get clearance to land at O’Hare *before *he takes off from Metro I’ve been told.

The trip to the airport, the flight, then the trip out of O’Hare and into the city took… that’s right, about 4.5 hours total door-to-door.

Busy city.

I’d take the blue line CTA, less than 5 bucks. It takes a while, but it is a good trip. If you have extra time, hop off in Wicker Park (Damen stop) and have dinner there, it is from my perspective a more enjoyable place to have dinner than downtown. Taxi is prolly $35 or $40 depending on where you are heading.

parachute. only way to beat the god d#@m traffic in that dump

Taxi? If so how much?

Taxi ($40) or Blue line ($3). Depending on traffic one may be significantly faster than the other, but impossible to know which way. Blue line is dependable.

CTA if the weather is bad or you’re trying to save time. Taxi otherwise.

Try hopstop.com to see the options.

blue line. no question. pm me. I’ll walk you through it.

Blue Line. Time-wise the cab and train are pretty close, but money-wise you are looking at a $40 difference. The only way I would take a cab is if I had a group of 3 people with bags splitting the fare.

If you aren’t from Chicago, the Blue Line goes elevated outside of the Loop and offers a few decent looks at downtown. And honestly I would be more comfortable on the train than cramped in the back of a odorous cab flying down the interstate.

It is a bit of a pain to get to depending on what terminal you arrived in, and if you aren’t a good traveler or have a ton of baggage it can be a bit stressful to schlep your bags everywhere.

Agreed. Time-wise, about the same as taxi, but much less stressful and definitely cheaper. Blue line ends at the airport, so easy to get a seat and get sorted. The walk from your airline’s gate to the subway takes time, but it’s all indoors. Call your hotel to figure out which stop to exit. System uses fare cards kinda like DC, though it’s flat-rate, IIRC. The transit map has a decent close-up of the Loop that will help for getting around before and after the race

Another vote for the blue line. Super cheap and convenient!

Where are you looking to end up? Blue line is the cheapest and easiest, but if you are going north or south it may take quite a bit longer. For downtown Chicago you can’t beat it.

Also, what time are you going? Traffic sucks all the time, but if you are anywhere near rush hour forget the taxi

We are staying at the Renaissance Hotel (1 W. Wacker Dr.). Now how about the best way to get to McCormick Place Convention Center (from downtown)?

Taxi would be about $12-15, I think, depending on traffic.

You can take a bus, but around the McCormick Center gets a little sketchy. I took a bus back once after RnR Half packet pickup, and the bus driver had to stop the bus b/c there was a very large and angry woman who refused to let go of her open can of High Life. This was around 10 am.

Yep, blue line. Cool tool here:

Getting to McCormick - a couple ways to do it:

Blue line hands down. 9/10 times it’s quicker than a taxi, and it’s $3 vs +/- $40.

transitchicago.com for stops & maps. Very easy to locate in O’Hare, and there are a few stops right in the middle of the loop.

For the Renaissance, you’ll want to get off at Clark & Lake, it’s a 2 block walk.

As for getting down to McCormick from there, you’ll want to take a taxi, it’ll run you ~$15-$20.

Any more questions or anything feel free to PM me.
