Hello,
Emilio De Soto here. We make a couple of Trisuits. You ask a good question and rather than wondering if it will work well for you, why not form your own opinion? We offer a 100% no questions asked guarantee so if you our Trisuit and you are not perfectly happy with it, you can return it for complete refund even after you have used it.
If I can answer any particular questions for you, let me know.

You should go and try a few different ones on to find what fits YOU best. Every brand/type fit a little different. That being said I really like my Speedo XD skin. I have used it for Ironman and 1/2 Ironman distance races with no issues. It is supportive and has a nice little pocket/support type thing inside the chest area that I found great for ice placement during hot runs!
Another vote for DeSoto. Most comfy chamois money can buy. And the suit is nice and cool. Love mine. I even wear it for training and throw a cycling jersey on over the top of it.
Desoto Forza. Lots of pockets, great fit, nice colors, comfortable on long rides BUT the number one reason…
I wasn’t sure about the fit, emailed Desoto and within 5 minutes, Emilio Desoto emailed me back. Not only that, I was told that if I didn’t like it, I could send it back and they’d send me another. You cannot beat customer service like that.
If it’s speed in the water then you’re looking at the FastSkin, Orca Killa, 2XU Super Elite and stuff like that. You give up a bit of breathability and as well as durability, pockets, and you may have to adapt to the tighter fit and fewer options to unzip the top when it gets hot but these are probably the “fastest” suits out there. Geared more towards and Olympic distance race where the swim plays a larger role than the 1/2 distance. From these my fav is the 2XU Super Elite, Looooove mine!
If it’s breathability, freedom of movement (although my 2XU is super duper non restrictive) and you’re racing a pretty hot race then something like the Desoto (my perrenial fav), the Sugoi (new stuff is super duper nice and TONS of mesh), and other suits more in the $90-$120ish range are probably what you’re looking for. You gain a few pockets, more breathable materials, longer front zips, more durable fabrics (for the most part), generally a bit plusher pad and something that you probably won’t have much trouble training in versus a race day suit.
That all being said you really need to try any suit you buy on as depending on the paneling and design of the suit they all fit different body types differently
I’ve tried other one piecers but this one is by far the best: soft, supportive material, fits just right, you can wear it without a wetsuit, and most importantly, there’s no need to even unzip the front when running… I just don’t get hot in it (and it’s even black).
A few comments have been made about having to try different ones to find one matching to your specific needs.
I unfortunately do not have the advantage of a shop in the neighbourhood that has more then one of the suits previously mentioned. I know i can try a Orca and a Kiwami but that’s about it. That’s part of the reason i’m asking .
Everybody has their wants and needs. Mine are that i prefer a black(dark) suit. Just like the look of it. I also am not interested in back pockets. If i need to carry something during the run (f.e. gels) i will put them onder my suit. I like a suit that will make me swim faster, for i am a average swimmer ( 22-23 min Oly), but obviously i’m not looking for a swimmers suit.
Also i started this thread to see if we can make a summary of experiences and recommondations so that future search button users can easily locate available knowledge. So far, we’re doing great
Also is Desoto readily available in the Netherlands?
Haha i got done with a swim with just the bottoms. an im like ummmm i don’t have a crotch anymore this is a problem lol. I think a lot of it has to do with how thin they are. Compared to the desoto ones they are paper thin. But i haven’t noticed any problems with breathability for the desoto ones even though they are a bit thicker.
Yeah i understand even in iowa we don’t really have access to much of anything there is only one shop that is kinda a tri shop and they are very minor in the big scheme of things. The closest real tri shop is gear west 4 hours away or so, therefore i also have to do a lot of my ordering online.
I use desoto’s speed suit over the Forza trisuit for swims. Im not sure how breathable the speed suit is as it comes off as soon as i am out of the water. However i have heard people using it for sprints with no problems. It has no pockets etc. unlike the forza.
If you are concered about a bike pad, it may be very possible to get it sewn into the speedsuit i’d talk to emilio about it. As far as desoto being available in the netherlands that i don’t know. But getting it from emilio i’m sure wouldn’t be a problem. I needed a difference size of the forza suit because the one i was using was too large even with the holiday this week i ordered it on monday and got it thursday so that shouldn’t be an issue.
I have tried a few different kinds and wanted to let you know that the 2XU Super Elite is lightyears ahead of the others in engineering and materials. You will notice a distinct difference the first time you put it on as it fits much differently than the others do. It is also somewhat unique in that it zips in the back. And not sure how important this is to you - but IMO it’s the best looking.
It just fits better and I don’t like the mid-section riding up on me in a two-piece. There are probably drag issues in the water if you wear the top there and drag issues on the bike if you are super-sensitive to that.
And if it’s really hot and you really want to, you can peel the top half of the tri-suit off where you can’t with a two piece (though you can unzip it but not remove it). This isn’t alowed in WTC, btw.
It also looks a lot better, IMO, as long as you don’t have a huge gut.
One other advantage that I can think of - because the shorts essentially have suspenders on the trisuit, you don’t have to have the tight elastic waistline like you do on the two piece jobs that can restrict bloodflow a little and chaffe.
