Best Triathlon Magazine?

What do you think is the best Triathlon Magazine?

Hands down the best. And good for the enviroment, no trees were killed in the production of this page.

There isn’t one.

Insidetri is small and infatuated with Pro’s and ITU racing.

Triathlete sold it’s soul to advertisers.

220!

don’t get 220 unless you want to hear all about obscure British races.

I counted the pages of Triathlete to see how many pages had actual content and not just ads. I credited any page with any content as a full content page. It came out to serously 60% of the magazine was pure ads. That left 40% with at least some content. And at least half those pages had ads on a large percentage of the page.

There’s more to 220 than the reports on obscure British races! The technical/technique articles are plentiful, well-written, and are usually illustarted with excellent photographs, and the product reviews and comparisons are very well done. Yes, there are too many Britsh-based race reports for anybody on this side of the Atlantic, but ignoring those I really think 220 delivers more useful information than either of the U.S. publications.

I think Inside Triathlon is changing radically and becoming a much better magazine – especially for the age-group athlete (kinda picking up where Kyle left off with American Tri). Problem is finding Inside Tri on the newstands. I am also very impressed by what Jeff Henderson has done to improve the quality of the IT website. Triathlete primarily features their advertising sponsors and Ironman. I sense they are trying to broaden their coverage but their major advertisers do have an impact on editorial content. I have increasingly come to rely on Runners World for training tips, nutrition, health etc. Never gets old.

Try that same experiemtn on any magazine on any subject and you will find that most of the time the result will be the same.
