Who are the best triathletes who have never attempted an ironman?
Let’s leave out the pro’s now concentrating on ITU and Olympics, since you would have to list practically all of them, and they are all still active anyway. Currently it seems pro’s are either ITU or Ironman; maybe you have to go back to the late 80’s and 90’s when there were enough lucrative short course events to make a viable pro career. Let’s leave out Ned Overend and people who never race road events.
How about these just to get it started, I’m sure you guys can do better. Correct me if you know they have done one. Kirsten Hansen (won practically everything she entered in late 80’s) Ken Souza (I think I may remember seeing him on a televised tri of some type) Lance Armstrong (a stretch, I know) Michellie Jones (did focus on ITU for a while though)
Kirsten Hansen did Ironman in '89. She actually led for a while. Kenny Souza did it in his early days before Duathlon really caught on. Michellie is stepping up to the half ironman this year so who knows? by the way Ned Overend did Ironman in the early 80s. At one point he was on the ABC coverage yelling at his wife in the support car. The list of non ITU athletes who have never attempted Ironman is actually pretty small.
How about Brad Bevan, Joy Hanson, Colleen Cannon, Wes Hobson
