Best Training Plans or Coach for First Time Ironman?? Any suggestions would be great!
Max Shute. CTS training call Cameron Chambers to set you up.
Honestly for your first IM, depending on your goals and experience, and to a lesser extent your personality - simple consistency will get you very very far.
Having an excellent coach that you can turn to for any questions doesn’t hurt either. Having a coach that can pull in your reigns during training when its best for you doesn’t hurt either. Having a coach that can share his experience with you to come up with a realistic plan of execution on race day doesn’t hurt either. Hopefully if you decide on a coach, as I did, for my first IM this year at IMWI, you will feel it was money well spent, just as I feel.
I agree.
There’s a lot of context the OP didn’t provide, so I was simply providing a viable alternative.
A lot depends on the OP:
What is their background?
Are they willing to read books, pick up knowledge and apply it?
etc.
A coach is a very valuable investment under the right circumstances for many of the reasons you bring up, but it isn’t the only option/path to success.
Francois got me through my first Ironman, working through injury and an unplanned month long trip to Japan.

Having a bit of common sense doesn’t hurt either…A hell of a lot of people managed just fine before it became fashionable to have your own coach .Friends, training partners and tri clubs have can provide all the information, motivation and experience that a first timer needs.
Coaches are a luxury and not a necessity for most folks…

An Ironman is a big commitment in time and training i would highly recommend getting a coach. There are many very affordable options out there online. Matt Dixon at Purple Patch Fitness has a great Virtual Training Squad (online). You have daily access to support and Matt is great in getting back to you as well. He coaches all levels from his professionals like Meredith Kessler and Jesse Thomas to elite AGers and total beginners! Check him out at http://www.purplepatchfitness.com

I have coached many 1st time athletes to Ironman finishes and their biggest comment was it was nice to have someone see the end result before they did. A coach can help you with the highs and lows of training and racing and prepare you for what to expect on race day. There are 1000’s of athletes each year that do their 1st Ironman without a coach that meet or exceed their goals. Just think about what it is you want to get out of this and decide would a coach better support those goals.
What is the cost of the Purple Patch virtual squad? Cannot find information on the website.
I think it really depends on what plan you are looking for… You can call them or shoot him an email and Matt will break it down for you. For me, an semi- elite AGer, I wanted a plan I could absolutely trust and not second guess anything and that what I get with Purple Patch. Everything integrates with Training Peaks and you receive your entire plan on the calender plus daily emails. weekly video calls etc… Just shoot them an email and they will explain the program.
