Best Tour, Ever

Well, at least since we’ve been getting real TV coverage here in the US. There have been some memorable stages in the past 15 years, but this year had more good racing and high drama than I’ve ever seen on the tube.

Personal faves:

  1. Stage 1: “Here comes the train!!! … Wait, who’s that? ROBBIE MCEWEN!!! WHERE’D HE COME FROM???”

  2. Stage 3: Cancellara holding on by inches with a perfectly timed kilo-jump. I’m on the edge of my seat even watching re-runs.

  3. Final TT finish: Wow. With 32 seconds of time bonuses available tomorrow, I’m not sure I believe Levi saying (my paraphrase) “Cadel can rest easy, I’m not going to try to take 2nd away tomorrow.”

You forgot a couple of mountain stages in there too. Even if you take Ras and Vino out, Alberto’s surges alone were fun to watch.

I would never say the best Tour ever nor of the last fifteen years just because of all doping but hopefully it will be seen as a turning point in Cycling and maybe sports at large.

I know…wishful thinking

I agree, best in years… if it wasn’t for the doping fiasco.

How about Sandy Casar, post dog, just gutting it out for that win. My number 2 to Cancellara’s win.

The fights between Contador and Rasmussen in the Mtns were epic as well.
