Best shoe for a lightweight, efficient runner?

My daughter has been running in Brooks Adrenaline’s for years now but the newer Adrenaline seems to be a bit firmer than in the past so she wants to try something different.

She’s tiny… 4’9" 73 pounds… and has a normal to low arch, seems to have a neutral gait or maybe pronates slightly, mostly midfoot striker and is a very natural, efficient runner.

Any recommendations for a new shoe to try out?

If she likes the brooks last, why not move down the line to the Axiom? With her being that small, the Burn might be a great option. I trained for IM in a set of Burns and I’m over twice her weight.

Adidas’ Adistar Comp and/or Adizero are great running flats for lightweight runners. I’ve recently tried both and they feel very soft and truly efficient. I’m becaming now an Adidas’ groupie after ages on Asics’.

OMG, you used the word “efficient”, hopefully you measured this with a metabolic cart or someone will be jumping down your throat very soon. I used to have a metabolic cart, before the horse. Could not afford to keep both otherwise I would lend it to you.

Now as far as shoes, I’d imagine a 73 lb runner with good form might do really well in a gel magic racer or something like that. I have had good luck racing in the Brooks racer st2. I am not light and don’t have a particularly natural stride, but it seems like a light runner witha natural stride might do well with something like that as an ever day trainer. Plus, at 73 lbs, she probably doesn’t break down shoes as quickly as someone who weighs roughly 2x as much, so they might last a long as normal trainers.

my daughter, who is only a little bigger, runs in the asics ds-racers. she liked the flexibility and feel and the sparkley laces make her run faster. I think most of the small size adult shoes are too stiff for kids.

Sorry… by “efficient” I meant biomechanically and not metabolically…she looks effortless when she runs… she looks like a natural runner with good form and her stride and body motions are very fluid…
