Currently running in Brooks Adrenalines and have struggled with soleus strains (right side) for 3+years (used to run in Mizuno wave riders, Adrenalines seem to have helped a little). During an IM build this year started getting achillies tendonitis on the same side. right leg is 8mm shorter than left and I am told I pronate slightly on that side and not the other. In addition to stretch and massage, have been doing some functional movement strengthening/physical therapy and I have finally broken down to get some custom orthotics…the last piece I can think of is are there any shoes that those with similar issues have had better luck with…all recommendations appreciated, thanks in advance!!!
It is not really going to be shoe fix. The shorter limb will pronate to functionally lengthen as it abducts. Your heel lift in your orthotics should help this some. PT, stretching, etc. should all be done, but if this has been attempted for 3 years …
In your particular case, a more stable shoe with medial post, flared heel, etc. would be helpful. Won’t give a nice, fast “ride”, but may help stave off your chronic strains. I’m partial to the Asics Gel Kayano for this since the shoe has plenty of “control” and is still reasonably light and durable and works well with orthotics.
Good luck!
