Re: Premier - oh that is fantastic, thanks for mentioning! I misinterpreted the spoke in concert with the other spoked wheels listed on the page.
Thanks!
Thanks for the comment and agree re: not going narrower than 20 and thanks for the support for the HED Vanquish, I can circle back.
Nice, thanks for sharing, hadn’t looked at that one
Go with what has a lifetime warranty, good crash replacement program and the fastest turn around in the event you need to replace it due to a warranty issue.
Personally I go with a wheel that has DT Swiss internals so I can swap out the free hub and the benefits of easy serviceability.
I actually posted it, and read the website and thought the same thing and deleted my post so I could confirm it. Dan is a great owner and frequent poster on here. He will happily answer any questions. Great wheel great owner.
Wheelsfar. Love mine for $1k. $3k for something that gets used so little? The difference MIGHT come to about $1k per 0.5watt. Poop more or eat less.
How is the clearance on the wheel itself? I’m looking for a disc for my P-Series frame but it looks like Cervelo are saying it is a maximum 29MM tire clearance
If you are asking what the actucal width of the tire is once a 30 mm (GP 5000S) has been mounted … it is almost 32 mm … too wide if the clearance on your Cervelo is only 29 mm
Thanks very helpful. Though I did mean what the clearance is like on the frame around e.g. the chain stays with a wider wheel rather than just the tire. I think I should be ok if running a 28MM tire
I see … with the Parcours disc, the limiting (clearance) factor is the tire and not any part of the wheel that sticks out. Thus, you only need to be concerned about tire clearance
I’ll also toss in a vote for the Parcours disk. I bought one this past spring and have been quite happy with it, for the value. On the vanity side, they will customize the graphics and color for you, so you can match your bike. Running GP5000 TT-TR tubless at 65 psi, I find the wheel rides very nice, with almost no increased harshness over a spoked wheel.
Pros:
Cost, wide, hooked, custom graphics, available matching front wheel, monocoque design (non-spoked), velcro’ed stem window cover (no stickers)
Cons:
Heavy (1240 g), hub is kinda meh, valve stem window is small
Thanks thats really helpful. One for the list
I have a 2019 P5 Disc and my training tires are GP 5000s TR in 30 on my Roval Rapide that are 20.7 int width and they work just fine. Not a ton of clearance but no rubbing (60 psi)
Wheel nerd here.
I don’t think there is a ton of extra to be had on disc wheels in terms of performance from brand to brand. I’d probably look at a 21-23mm internal if you can find it and your frame allows for it. Probably hooked because it’s proven at this point but hookless is fine IMHO.
Can’t go wrong with DT.
I’ve tried 3 different off brand disc wheels in the last 9 mos. All we’re acceptable but gozone on AliExpress was easily the best one. $700 with custom finish and graphics. Takes a while though.
Be a little careful on weight side. Seems like the sub 1000 gr discs are a little flexy. It’s not bad but can cause tire rub on the stays during uphill or standing efforts.
Ps …that Plasma is awesome. Cool looking bikes.
Since nobody has mentioned it, aerocoach. That’s what I would like to buy. However there is no justification for the price that it would make me faster than my flo disc wheel, so I won’t upgrade. If I didn’t have a budget that’s what I’d go for. They make them special for any bikes that have clearance issues too. I assume it has hooks I guess I don’t know.
That’s the one that I have my eye on. Spoked construction and very light weight. Can’t see the drawback for me noting I ride rough roads and ‘rolling’ courses.
In fact even pricewise shipped to NZ then it seems pretty good value as it’s the same as the Profile D21 and about half the price of princeton.
Preach. Rear wheels are is in such dirty air that any specific wheel has to be tested in a specific frame/rider geometry. The biggest gain is on the trailing edge, where the air is already at a lower velocity and fully turbulent.
Slightly off topic but age old question-would a trispoke be faster up front than deep spoke?
Enough pro teams use their wheels without sponsorship that it should be a safe choice for speed. I’d go with this, too.
