Best place to go for orthotics in Boulder

Where is the best place to go for running and/or cycling orthotics in Boulder?
Thanks!

After having a foot issue related to cycling diagnosed and fixed by Dr. Andy Pruitt at Boulder Sports Medicine, I was referred to Dr. Thomas Shonka. I took the referral very seriously, and drove 50 miles to see Dr. Shonka at Foot and Ankle Care of Boulder. I would recommend this Doctor as well, he explained everything in depth to me and was very thorough. The phone# is 303-449-2000

So both are good? Do they both make cycling and running orthotics?
Thanks so much.

Both Doctors are great, but I think only Dr. Shonka makes orthotics. The orthotics are all custom, so you get whatever you need.

I’ve used Andy Pruitt and Robert Jelinek (a podiatrist) for running orthotics. I was happy with both of them.

Not sure how much Danny Abshire is doing since he is busy with Newton Shoes, but he is simply amazing.

Active Imprints is the name.

Thanks. Anyone have any experience with In Motion? They guy who owns Boulder Running Co? Can’t remember his name.

Wilrace4food,

Although Dr. Andy Pruitt is highly respected in the cycling and medical communities and is himself an avid recreational and racing cyclist, there are at least two posters on this forum who fault him for having “sold out” to Specialized as Dr. Pruitt assisted Specialized in making an orthotic footbed to relieve common chronic cycling ailments Dr. Pruitt had encountered in his practice available to cyclists at a very reduced price. Dr. Pruitt has not hesitated to recommend these footbeds to cyclists for relief of these ailments and as such he has “sold out” in the opinions of these few posters. Be fore warned.

Do take this warning with a grain of salt as that anyone who has learned enough in their experience/practice to write a book on the subject and then proceed to profit from the sale of those books as well as profitting from the sale of a “better mousetrap” has “sold out” in the opinions of those posters.

However, others in the cycling and medical communities, are grateful for the work Dr. Pruitt has pioneered. He is very experienced and successful in the diagnosis and treatment of cycling injuries and ailments and a highly recognized authority on the subject.

Ben,

I am grateful that I can drive to Boulder Sports Medicine as they are only an hour away from me. I ended up with Dr. Andy Pruitt by way of two referrals, my physician sent me to an orthopedist, who sent me to Dr. Pruitt. After successfully treating me, Dr. Pruitt introduced me to Todd Carver, a biomechanist at BSM who is another impressive and engaging professional. Todd refit me on my road bike, after not using it for about five years. I then was referred by Todd to Colorado Multisport as he recommended they do the triathlon bike fit. Once again, I had an excellent, top notch experience with Tim Troha and Ryan Ignatz as they expertly fit me, then built my Litespeed Blade to their exact fit specs.

I have nothing but praise for the experience I have had with all these people. If somebody believes less of Dr. Pruitt for adding his input or design to the Specialized Trivent shoe, that is their own issue. I think it is excellent that someone so expert in cycling would add input to a pair of shoes. I wish every shoe I wore had input from a doctor as experienced as Dr. Pruitt!

Mark Plaatjes? he makes some good stuff. I’m not a big fan of orthotics, but he’s good anyway.

edit: I’ve worked with all of the above posted Dr’s in one way or another and they’re all good people. They all have the tools to do a great job for you. Take your pick.
