I’ve been looking at race wheels, and The Renn disc is about to be purchased, the thing is, the logo on the 575 disc just doesn’t really match my ride (sorry frank.) Plus I will be picking up a front wheel at some point (almost definetly used) and they just have to match. I’ve got a couple different styles I’ve been kicking around, but the ultimate design is gonna be determined by what the decal maker can do.
So, what is the best shop/web site that would make something flashy, durable, and relativly cheaply? Thanks.
Depends on what you want. Most good graphics places have a vinyl cutting machine which can do custom logos, lettering, basically anything in die-cut self adhesive vinyl. These decals are generally durable and resistant to ultra-violet. We use them extensively here for custom graphics on bikes.
Another option are places that make custom wet transfers, but they are more difficult ot apply and more expensive to make.
The advanatage on die-cut vinyl is that you can do one offs for very little cost. Most sign places have the capability also.
This place is great…you design your own decal on their site, push the submit button…pay…then it arrives in about 4 days. I was able to make a sticker of my name that matched the font of all of the QR decals on my bike.
That’s a very cool site. Does anyone know what ‘font’ Cervelo uses on their frame decals (P2K if it makes a difference)? Some matching personalized decals might be kind of cool.
Tha’s a pretty clear answer. But I’ve got to say that the Bank Gothic font I found online doesn’t look a bit like the font on the bikes (P2K & P3 appear the same). I suspect that Bank Gothic might be the base font, but the one on the frames is Cervelo’s own creation, its just to different. Here are the ones I found:
At that site, you can pick whichever font you like… Which QR bike do you have… if you give me some time, I’ll reply again tonight with the font that I used. It turned out great. You can do the colored border around the letters and do whichever colors for the letter / border you like. The decal will come on a sheet that makes installation a snap. I found them, by chance, doing an internet search.
Again, I’ll reply later and let you know what font I did…I just have to find my receipt.
The font that matched my bike (2003 Tequilo) is “Serpentine DBol Italic”. I went with Olympic Blue with Black border and it looks great. The blue is a little different than the color of my bike, but that is what I wanted. Try the web site, I’m sure you can come up with something that will look good. I did a 1" height x 7.85" width decal. I put it on my top tube on the right side, where the decal ends near my seatpost tube. I can send you a picture if you would like to see how it turned out.
Yeah, Bank Gothic does not look right. In any case I am pretty sure the font is italic. Try Clarendon in italics on the speedysigns website. Looks darn close to my eye.
Yup, Bank Gothic is definitely the typeface for the names as well as the name of the bike (P3, P2, Soloist) on the seatstays. The Cervelo decal font is different.
I think Speedy Signs owes you some finder’s fee money. Of the 200+ that have viewed this thread, I would guess most of them (like me) went there and tried out the site. How cool.
I’m getting a decal that makes my bike look like it’s in an Indiana Jones movie. That kicks all forms of ass.
