Alright slowman, I need your assistance.
I am pretty much sold on getting the Boundary GRX 600 build (will swap chainring to go up to the 48/31 but that’s a different topic) BUT… I can’t help but drool over the GVR, mostly, well, because I love aero things.
So, as someone who is totally new to gravel, never really ridden anything but my tri bikes and has the intent of using this bike 70% road, 30% gravel with all of that planned riding being training miles the GVR would be a waste of my money right??
My thinking ( and I am kinda just trying to talk myself off the ledge of buying the GVR) is that even if I do decide to go down the road of gravel racing or gravel tri I would get way more bang for my buck out of the Boundary with a nice set of wheels vs the GVR.
Would love to hear your thoughts (and yes… I read your review of the GVR)
(Also totally open to you saying “go for it, buy the GVR it’s the best option”… just saying lol
what i read about the GVR is that it can handle 650b/53mm. that’s the magic number. that gets you the tire size you need for west of the rockies gravel. with the boundary you can go yet larger on tires, but i think 53mm is the size.
otherwise, the GVR has hidden cables. it’s not as pretty a big as the cervelo aspero 5, but no gravel bike is. cervelo has paint nailed. they’re similar, because they each have hidden hydraulics. very clean bikes. woe unto you if you need to change the stem. you can change it, but it’s a job. assuming the bike is set up to your fit coordinates, you’re good.
we have a pro athlete at the compound right now, and she’s awaiting her new bike from her new team. we went on a long ride yesterday, and she rode the aspero 5 we have at the compound, with road wheels, and got a lot of comments from other riders. riding a bike like that as a road bike is fine. in that case, if you get the GVR, i’d get it as a 2x. i think a 1x is great for gravel, but 2x is better for road for most people.
