We are curently working both with our team logo and the design of our team clothes for our new Norwegian triathlon club, Oslofjord triatlon
To get ideas I have been looking around at american web-sites, and found many very traditional logos and suits. But who do you think have the best logo and the best looking team clothes? I kind of liked San F and Chicago.
As a graphic designer and triathlete, might I offer some advice to help you get the results you are looking for. After you look around and see what you like, make up a list in order of importance of what you want your logo to portray i.e. your city, the fact that you are a tri group, speed, fun, whimsicle…all these things can be described through a good logo.
Then once you have a logo finalized, start to design the uniform. Use the same process.Know what you like. THen, Make up a list of the most important things on the jersey, Dominant colors? Do you want to see the name of the group from far away, do you want the design to be simple? How many colors do you have to work with? Usually, if you are working with 2 colors you can use shades of that color. For example: Blue can also be used as a solid blue, then light blue and even a pastel blue.
Also, make sure you get all your sponsor logos in what is called “vector” format. Usually a file with the extension of .eps.
I was closely involved in creating my club’s uniforms…it is quite an in depth process.
My personal opinion is that the Los Angeles Tri Club http://www.latriclub.com/ (LA Tri) has it all. The look, the memberships, the workouts, sponsors and the performance of it’s members. Theirs is the standard to which all other are measured by.
Being a very patriotic American and native Californian, I love their Red, White and Blue color scheme. The logo is simple, yet gets the point across.
It’s an AWESOME sight when LA Tri is at a particular race. If you’ve ever been to a race where LA Tri shows up, then you know what I’m talking about.
For my money, the best of seen is from Tribe, in San Jose. Sorry I don’t have any pictures, but if you see any and aren’t impressed, those are last year’s unis.
The new ones for this year are one-piece (last year was tanks and black shorts) with the logo a little bigger. Really sharp.
Being a member and on the board, I am partial to the TRIAD TRIATHLON TEAM, located in the Greensboro/High Point Area of North Carolina. We spent a few months tossing ideas around on the logo and what we wanted on the team uniforms. You can check out the link below to see what they look like.
The jersey design was selected by Louis Garneau to be the example of their tri tops in their custom team clothing catalog. I am kinda biased because I designed them but they are cool. It was used on their webpage as well for the custom team tri top.
wow, so many fantastic web-sites, suits and logos, hope you are proud of your teams, you should be. And if there are more proud club members here please post information and pictures, I have a fantastic time looking at your favorites, I get lots of ideas and I am very impressed (my boss would probably not be very impressed if he knew what I am doing though).
OK - this team loyalty is nice and all…but let’s face the simple truth and acknowledge the fact that the entire country of Norway has recognized the greatness of the San Francisco Triathlon Club and the uniforms proudly worn by its members. Let’s not let our biased opinions of our personal affiliations result in misguided and certain-to-fail attempts to change TriBent’s mind here
with some of the best fabrics I’ve ever seen. Check out our gear at www.hincapiesports.com/sportswear/source.html (then follow the triathlon link) Got more of a cycling team look to it.
