Best long term bike storage?

I’m packing up my bikes for about 6-8 months. Any reason why I can’t break them down and put them in travel bike boxes/cases? Do I need to do anything special (lube, clean, stuff the tubes) given that they will be stored in these boxes for that long, likely without any climate control?

Thanks.

No one? No tips? Any dealers or LBS owners have any tips? I don’t want to arrive in San Diego from deployment and find out my bikes are trashed.

I have only stored bikes with steel frames so it may be different for carbon fiber. I cleaned it the bike very thoroughly to get all the salt off and sprayed everything with wd-40, including inside the frame ( they were steel after all.) I would think think as long as its clean and lubed properly long term storage in a bike box would be fine.

Maybe put some of this in the storage room or box to combat rust?

I put a tub of this in my boat when I store it for the winter to prevent mildew.

What kind of bikes are they? If it is a scott addict or even a cervelo something or other, I can provide “storage” services if you would like. Just send the bikes my way.
