Best hard bike case?

the desired characteristics are

  1. Light

  2. good protection for the contents

  3. size (i.e. not huge)

  4. Ease of use - this can, of course, conflict with 3) but you don’t particularly want to completely disassemble the bike

  5. Price

  6. Portability (dragging around when loaded)

  7. Availability in the UK

My tri club (Thames Turbo) is going to buy a couple for members’ use so I am doing a bit of research.

Opinions gratefully received!

Hi Jon,

I brought a SCICON case from Sigma Sports. The case is around 10kg.

I can get my P2K in by removing the wheels and loosing the aerobars so total time is about 15 minutes to pack or unpack. All my gear goes into it - bike, 3x shoes, wetsuit, track pump etc for a total weight around 28kg.

I haven’t had any problems with it on planes yet but my biggest bearbug is that it is awkward to get it through the underground stations when fully loaded. I’m thinking of drilling a couple of holes to connect a shoulder strap to make it easier for the stairs.

Sigma rent out a couple of different types cases (and I think TriUK do too) so arrange to go into the shop and test them!

that SCICON case looks really nice, only know one guy who has one though. My fav is the Trico Ironcase, relatively light, easy to pack, and insanely durable
