I just bought a new frame, Cervelo SLC-SL, and I am wondering how to build it. SRAM Force, or Ultegra 10 speed or 105 11 speed?
A lot of it is opinion. Ergonomics, looks, feel. Force is a lot lighter.
Shimano ultegra or 105. Both are way up there in terms of cost vs performance.
Budget?
Chorus 11 shifters, Athena rear derailleur, Red crank, S compatible wheels, and whatever else you like.
tiagra with dura ace derailleur pulleys?
For racing, Force 22 is easily the best value in new grouppos.
For “what can I get for a great price,” I got a complete Rival 10-sp group last summer for $400, including crankset and cassette, that was a new take off. I actually felt guilty.
105 is good stuff, but I haven’t used the 11-sp yet. Ultegra 6700 is also very good and can be had for a good price, though I think it might have an inflated value compared to Force right now.
The issue with 11-sp is that they require an 11-sp compatible dish on your wheel. That in itself is hard to find in wheels older than 2-3 years. Since I have very nice 10-sp wheels, I’m holding out.
Probably depends on now you like your shifting. For road, I’m a SRAM guy. I like that my brake is my brake. The single lever shifting on force is clean and easy.
Budget $4-600. And I’m kinda anal like this but I don’t wanna mix of components
SRAM Force.
Ultegra 11 group from some place like this.

Campagnolo Chorus. Purchased from the right place, the components are not that expensive. They work awesome.
For a TT bike, the 11 speed shifters are incredible.

Then what parts do you need to buy?
I mean, I don’t want ultegra 105 force mixed all together. I want 105/105/105 etc. But I need shifters, brakes, derailleurs, crankset.

Hey, I’m not kidding! Best bang for the buck. If jtek had a doohickey that would mesh Shimano rear derailleurs with C11 shifters, I’d recommend a 7700 rear… love those things. They will soon, and that’s when I’ll consider going to 11. Campy shifters are great and cheaper than the others. Sram Red cranks are all around good for the weight and price… 10spd would probably work fine. Probably go with Planet X calipers.
Anybody who buys a “groupset” is seriously lacking in creativity…

I have no need for an expensive front derailleur, but I don’t want a sloppy rear derailleur. Just suggesting that in mind of the responses here, you might want to reconsider.
I wasn’t kidding either.
The only thing sucking any substantive watts away is the bearings and that isn’t really substantive either.
Maybe just tiagra.

In that case DA pulleys are way overpriced. You can pick up decent sealed bearings for cheap. Tiagra rear der is cheap and heavy… this ain’t a TT bike! I’d rather have an old DA or Ultegra any day.
Keep wheel compatibility in mind. Using the 10 speed groups means you have more wheel options. Also, 10 speed only wheelsets are getting cheaper on the used market.

QFT. Every time I fondle a Campag TT shifter, I get envious. Unmatched ergonomics for a mechanical shifter, and absolutely lust-worthy looks and function.
ribble (uk retail site) was selling new 11 speed 105 groups earlier this week for $441 - all parts included. they are currently out of stock (at least they were on friday when i checked), but keep an eye out… might come back.
