Based upon my friends, I have the best girlfriend around. After thinking about it for 10 seconds I realized that she may be the best. Does anyone else out there have a girlfriend that is sweet all of the time? I mean, she never gets mad at me for riding my bike 25 hours/week, blowing out of town to Xantusia for 2 days, working long expo hours every other weekend, etc…
Parinoid, I started to think the reason that she lets me run around like the Tasmanian Devil, is because she does not like me around. Immediatly, I came to my senses when I remembered that she talked about getting a tandem. She must really like me if she wants to be joined by a piece of Aluminum…(unless Craig Calfee wants to throw us a Calfee!!!)
If any of you have the chance to meet Noreen, you will say the same as Slowman, Monty, Big “C” Troy, Babbit, and, of course, ME…I am the luckiest multisporter alive. Some call her Sweet Noreen, some call her Snoreen(those that know that she like to sleep!)
Hats off to all of us with “great” old ladies!!!
Can anyone’s significant other measure up to “Sweetness?”
PS…Was anyone out there lucky enough to hear Dan Emfield’s thank you speech after receiving his award at 2004 Competitor Awards??? Pretty funny material.
she is now my fiance, but when she was my girlfriend
she bought me both of my bikes
my mountain bike after my previous one was stolen
and a road bike for christmas this past year
2 great reasons to propose
.
good for you… I hope that she stay’s that way for your sake… I know what you mean…had my share of “best girlfriends”. The first 2 years she was all about going to races, packing my equipment, kissing me at the transition area, paging through my magazines, sleeping in while I trained, bla, bla, bla… Then wham. The novelty of having a triathlete boyfriend wore off.
just see what happens once you start talking about getting married or pitch tent and move in together (considering you already have not). Things will change… enjoy it now.
What’s that old saying about how women go into marriage believing the man will change and men go into marriage thinking the woman won’t change and how both end up very disappointed.
You either compromise and appreciate each other as you both change over time, or you’re going to be miserable. My girl rocks! We both encourage each other to do our own thing, and we still like spending time together. Of course, we’ve only been together for 9 years, married less than 4, but based on my prior marriage, I can tell you that this one is in a different category altogether.
If you’re lucky enough to be in a great relationship with someone, you should be willing to do a little work to keep it great.
I’m amazed at the number of guys I know who complain about their wives, but never do anything nice for them. No flowers, no boxes of chocolate, nothing. Whenever I ask why, they always answer, “We’ve been together for x years. I don’t need to do anything to make her feel special.” One time, I was buying flowers for my wife, and I bought an extra bouquet for a friend to give to his wife. It had been so long since he had bought her flowers that she was suspicious of him. That doesn’t happen overnight.
I think that one basic thing that most people forget when in a long term relationship is to be KIND to one another. This is a person you love… so why do you treat the stranger behind the counter at Starbucks more courteously? People forget how, when they first met, they went out of their way to do thoughtful things for one another, whether it’s to bring home flowers or leave enough hot water for a shower or even to just say thank you once in a while. One thing my husband still does for me that makes me happy (among others!) to is take his bike off the Computrainer and set mine up for me. He knows I hate to do it, and to make it simple for me to ride, he’ll take care of it without me even asking. Now THAT’s thoughtful!!! Whatta guy!! People sometimes begin to take one another for granted, and forget that small gestures mean a lot…
Yes, I have a great girlfriend and I have been married to her for 25 years. And, things can get better with age. Congratulations, people like your girlfriend are hard to find. If she is the real deal, I hope you have as great a life together as my “girlfriend” and I have.
PT, i told you that Snoreen was the best! Glad to see you took a minute to check it out for yourself… It was so great hangin with you guys last weekend!
