I bought a used bike that had a cateye 2 computer on it. It doesn’t have cadence, and it doesn’t have a feature that switches from category to category like the cheap one I got at Target for my road bike. Does anyone know of a computer out there that is simple to operate, has cadence and a scan mode that switches from distance to avg. speed to time, etc? A heart rate feature would also be a plus, but I’m not trying to spend my life’s savings. I already spent that on the bike.
Catteye C3000 cordless. It’s pricey but has everything. Alternatively consider the Polar 200 cycle combined computer/HR. This has a cadecne add on as well.
I agree with UK that the Polar is a great choice for the money.
My only issue with the Polar cs200cad is the inability to upload data which it is supposed to do. I was also a little bummed out that you could not mount the speed sonsor on the rear wheel for indoor training. The prelim Polar product reports suggested that you would be able to.

I haven’t been able to find this one. Is it the Catteye C300 DW? The catteye double wireless w/ heart rate monitor is what I’m leaning toward, but where is the speed sensor mounted? I’m curious if it still works with spokeless wheels. Are these things so complicated that I’ll never be able to change the settings during training? I just want cadence, heart rate, current speed, and then a section that alternates between total distance, total time, and average speed. Can this thing do that?
Yes. the speed sensor is a combined unit housed on the left chainstay and reads both values there. No wires, tidy, and the magnets are held on with clips, ties, (or in the case of my rear disc) double sided tape.
Early models were a little twitchy but modern ones are fine. Stay away from the Mavic though, as I’ve heard nothing but bad things about it.
Can you download the Cateye?
No. If you need that feature it may be better to opt for a Polar.
I believe you have to go to the 700 series Polar or S625x to upload data. I am using the S625x and find it to be very useful tool. If you are a data junkie it’s great for analyzing data and he sw it comes with is pretty good. Outside of a SRM or PT it’s fantastic. You can add power but I have not done so - yet. For simplicity I like Sigma computers. They are wired but they work and are simple to install and use. I would also check out VDO computers. They have a new line of wireless models that look very interesting.
I have the cateye double wireless. love it, for all the reasons the other guy said. Very simple and tidy.
Any interference problems with the cateye double wireless either in group rides or when it is raining?
I have the wired cateye astral which is cheap but every 18 months I need a new one because the speed sensor stops working.
I don’t ride in the rain
And I’ve never had any issues on group rides. Not to say it doesn’t happen, just never to me. And I’ve never heard of it happening to anyone else.
I just put the double wireless Cateye on my Dual and love it. Easy to install and works flawlessly (so far). I haven’t ridden with a group, but it’s digitally coded so the chances of interference should be pretty slim.

Where did you get it? I’m looking for a low price.
Retail is $150 so I would say anything under $130 wouldn’t be a bad deal. I paid $130 at my LBS. I think it’s a pretty new product, so I don’t know if you’re going to get some amazing <$100 deal on it right now.
you are.
you are.
Where?
right there, look there you are!!
You are your best cycle computer. Afterall when they stop working what do we do? We keep going.

For that price I’d get the Ciclomaster 436M like what I use. With the wired cadence/wired speed I think it cost me about $155. Downloadable with pretty darn accurate altimeter too and nice software. I’m not sure if it still does, but it used to come standard with a wireless speed sensor but you had to replace that with a dual wired setup if you wanted cadence too.
I like my Mavic wireless/cadence. Computer attaches to stem, leaving room for aero bottle; front pickup is in skewer.
Does your on-the-stem computer get all gooey with an aero bottle in front of it? I have considered putting my computer there, but I’m afraid of ruining it with all the many dribbles from my aero bottle.
Thanks for the info!
