Don’t know what sales whack-person started the “ya get what ya pay for” lie, but Consumer Reports has been disproving it for years. There’s no correlation between price and function when it comes to bike shorts. Some high-end expensive gear rubs many riders the wrong way.
Agreed.
But in 25+ years of cycling and riding in many different cycling shorts I have noticed a trend that less expensive in this category is not always the best choice.
NOW - that being said comfort in this area is very individual and complicated. It’s not just the shorts that are at play here, the saddle is in the mix, as is the bike fit as well as the overall fitness of the person on the bike.
The saddle again is an individual choice
Bike fit is huge, but I still see many triathletes riding with what I would call horrific bike fits and positioning.
Finally fitness is big to. Generally speaking the more you ride, all other things equal, the less of an issue comfort in this area is.
