Just wondering what people are using for Ultra running races.
Are there ones that seem to work better than others?
Cheers

Check out Hathan Products. Seems to be a better fit for me.
Not that I do ultras, but I’ve got a nathan belt that carries one bike-sized waterbottle in the small of my back.
like it for walkign; it bounces too much when I run.
i’d rather have the two-little-bottles option.
I’ve been using a Camelbak Classic (old) for my long runs and ultra races. However, it seems that Nathan has some great products. Later this spring I’ll look into it…most likely I’ll be buying a Nathan product.
Nathan has some good ones but the Ultimate Direction Wasp (men) and Wink (women) are the best I have seen.
Check out Vaude, if you can find one. I think it’s a French brand that’s pretty difficult to find over here. The Vaude packs do not rest on your back. Instead there is a mesh suspension system that allows your back to breathe.
I use a Nathan HPL#020 pack for my long trail runs. Fits very snug and does not buounce around, even thought it does not have a waist strap. I like that because waist straps just chafe me. Fits the 70oz bladder, enough room for several nutrition bars and a camera fits well in the shoulder strap pocket for quick pull and snap photos of nature. The bite valve is just about the worst design I have ever seen, I quickly replaced it with a camelback valve and how its perfect. Weight is only 6 ounces!

Funny how you mention the bite valve- I hate it too, but the rest of it is awesome. I’ve used it on four 3+ hour trail runs so far since Dec, and not one issue except for a cold day a few weeks ago when my gatorade froze (once again, b/c of the bite valve).
Thanks for the tip on the changeout w/ the camel back- I’ll have to try that. Is it a direct fit to the Nathan tube?

Forgot to add I have the CamelBak shirt hydration system as well, but obviously it’s hard to keep anything else because it has no pockets. The set up is awesome, doesn’t bounce, and is comfortable.
They should add some pockets in the same area as a desoto tri top, and you’d have a A+ product right there.
Camelback also makes a tube insulator that I have used while back-country XC skiing. It is made of neoprene and keeps the liquid from freezing just enough to allow you to get a drink. If you wait longer than 10 minutes between sips in sub-freezing weather it will get chunky and sometimes clog, but its way better than unprotected tubing.
