Anyone have suggestions…ideally where I can record everything, but prefer a free download, seems to work faster…
Don’t know about the downloadable part, but www.fitday.com works fine for me when I am motivated enough to watch what I eat.
bump.
I’ve got a program that I write for Windows Mobile devices that tracks food/calories. It has a desktop version which is basically just a clone of what is on the device, so it doesn’t take up the full screen on your PC, but you can use that for free. If you want to try it you can download it and just uncheck the Windows Mobile stuff during installation. It will install the desktop program and you don’t need to buy anything or enter a registration code, the desktop part is free.
I think the “best” downloadable one on the market is CalorieKing. It is really easy to use and the database is great. I do have problems with it however that keep me from using it. The biggest one is that the software counts total carbs instead of net carbs. I eat a ton of fibererous foods like lentils (where half of the carbs are fiber), and CK counts fiber towards your calorie intake. That means in order to figure out the number of calories I’ve actually “consumed”, I have to figure out how many grams of fiber I’ve eaten, multiply by 4, and subtract that number from the my total calorie count.
I’ve used www.fitday.com on and off over the years as well. It’s pretty good because you can customize items, it’s on the web so you can access it from any machine, and you can have a favorite list which makes it really quick to enter data.
Oooh it looks like this is a fairly open market. Just 3 products out there? Really?
I wrote my own software since the USDA Nutrition database is straight free. I think that’s what Calorie King uses too, so maybe I ought to start selling mine.
