I have read quite a few very unfavorable reviews on SLK regarding the bolt not holding down tight enough and other issues.
So my question is if you guys are running into the same stuff, or having other problems with it and ultimately what you recomend as a good looking, budget cranck in the area of $200 for a used one? (How much used SLKs cost anyways?)
My dilemma is to replace Specialized crank that came with Allez. I want to put something new on my new Kuota Kebel frame but of course I dont wanna blow too much moneys on it.
Can’t really recommend a crank - but just my 2 cents on the SLK. I had a SLK compact installed on my road bike by a LBS last summer…and within 200 miles it had backed out (read…failed) and I had to send it back to FSA for replacement. I had replacement crank installed by another LBS and it has 2000+ miles on it with no problems. It’s a great crank when it works. FWIW - it was either install error, bad luck or better new crank…but I am happy with my current SLK. Would I buy again…Hmmm…I donno.
I have an FSA slk carbon crank that came stock on my Specialized Transition and it has worked perfectly. Although, I have a Dura Ace crank on my road bike and it does shift a little better. For the money, I would go with the DA over the FSA if I was buying one.
