Best brake pads for Zipp wheels?

Zipp?..DA?..Corima?..

Opinions welcomed…

Thanks

Sam,

Straight from the Zipp website:

Highly Recommended: ZIPP highly recommends the use of ZIPP Carbon/Carbon brake pads for all ZIPP rims and wheelsets. ZIPP Carbon/Carbon pads are engineered for optimal performance and rim longevity under all (including extreme) conditions with both Silica-Ceramic and Aluminum braking surfaces. ZIPP Carbon/Carbon pads are also recommended for use with non-ZIPP products. To find out more about ZIPP Carbon/Carbon pads click here.

Other recommended pads are Shimano or Campagnolo pads designed for use with carbon rims, and KoolStop Black pads.

Any experience with Zipp pads?..I have used Corima in the past but with my new 808’s I want something better if possible.

I have used ZIPP wheels for years with just regular pads( Ultegra or DA). If you are using your wheels ONLY for triathlon racing this is all you may need. Reason: How often do you use your brakes in a triathlon? I have done entire IM bike legs and barely touched the brakes. Now, IF the course was VERY hilly or mountainous with a great deal of technical turns and descents, then I may want to look at the carbon pads, but few triathlon courses are like that.

If you use your ZIPP wheels for training, or bike racing, then I would say get the special pads.

Nope. But I did use just normal Shimano Dura Ace pads with no problems. I did not experience the “accelerated wear” that some here described. And I think I will continue to use DA pads.

I use the Zipp pads. Rather than having to say, “I use DA pads, but I don’t touch my brakes, or I use the DA pads and they wear really fast…” I can say that I use my brakes descending, in crits, on the road, everywhere, and they work great, just like Record pads on alloy rims. They last a full season and have no fade issues. There are no “but’s” or “if’s” with Zipp pads.
