A friend and I have just ordered Hydrotails…
Which bottlecage would you guys recommend for mounting on there? Of course it has to grip fairly tight around the bottle so they don’t launch from back there…

I prefer either the Zipp/Profil Design cages as they have a fairly aggressive carbon lip at the top of the cage which slots into the bottle recess or the USE carbon cages which have a tight circumference grip on the biddon. Never had an ejection with any of these options.
I tried a few crabon ones and some worked OK, but mostly just lanched them. I use the Chris King Titanium cages now, they are amazing. Very light weight and the bottles don’t even budge.
I use the Arundel Trident carbon cages. Work well with no issues at all.

KISS - I used my profile design ones, the ones with the rubber bands around them. no problems with missing bottles during my races!
Whatever HighPeaks Cyclery in Lake Placid slaps their name on. If you bend them in a little its actually hard with two hands - standing astride your ride to get them out. $5
You should have bought the Bontrager Race X Like cage holder. I looked/waited forever to get a rear mounted setup and found the Bontrager unit at the Trek store on-line. It is way easy to install, the hardware is beefy and allows for easy adjustments up/down to give the right angle.
The Hydrotail nation does nothing but complain about what a pain in the ass those things are to install. Have fun.
Well that’s nice, bravo for you and your rubber bands. The OP asked what we used on our HT’s and I bought the cages I like. Your posts infers or makes a value judgement on my choice, which is not appreciated.

I use the profile plastic Kage ones with the skinny rubber bands. They are cheap and i have not launched any bottles.
Arundels Dave O’s. Any of the Arundel cages are like loc-tite.
Arundel cages are the best for holding bottles. Have not found one better!
I use the Elite Ciusee std cages ($10-12 bucks) - you can bend them quite easilyt so bottle launching occurs. Don’t be tempted to go with some fancy carbon cages as they will not hold as well.
But as to the Hydrotail itself, gee whiz it took me forever to get the MF on my bike. I have a P3C with w/ a Profile Design Tri Stryke Elite saddle pushed very far forward . . . and the positioning of the rails relative to the seat made the install very difficult. I had to use the vertical holes instead of the horizontal holes.
I can not find it, but there was a guy on ST who made a holder that worked with those holes on the post.
Just an FYI that the titanium water bottle cages are made by King Cages and not Chris King. It will make it a little easier for people to find them by knowing the correct manufacturer.
They are the best cage out there and my personal favorite. I know that they make a stainless steel version too but haven’t tried it out.
oops, my bad. Yes you are correct, king cages. But again- they are the best and worth the $$.
