Looking for a wireless bike computer to attach to my P3SL and with rear wheel speed as well as cadence. I’d also like to attach the magnet to my rear HED3 Carbon wheel any tips on how to do that?
Thanks.
I’d like it to simultaneously display cadence, current speed and average speed.
Good question. I have the same bike and looking for the same.
I like the polar sc200 with cadence. Plus you get heart rate…About $149
Top of the line cateye is an option too. $99 to $139
I will be taking my P3SL to LBS that carries both to see which one fits better. Very mininal clearence on rear chain stay where the cateye goes and the polar mounts on the downtube.
My cateye double wireless has not let me down yet, very robust. Gives you Speed, Cadence, Distance and Time all on the one screen with no need to fiddle, unless you want additional info such as averages, totals etc, which you shouldn’t need during a ride. It also doesn’t suffer in the real wet like my older Cateye did.
Do you have and use a Polar heart monitor? I had a cateye double wireless and I could not get it to work properly when I was wearing my Polar, and/or the other way around - the signals conflict. Finally ended up going back to a wired Cateye because I need the heart data. Perhaps there is a fix for this? Looks like the Polar triple wireless is an option…
I use my cateye wireless mounted along side my Polar 720i (incl. speed and cadence) on my road bike. I have no problems with signal interference.
Before anyone asks the “why both” question… the cateye is for realtime monitoring as I ride, the Polar is for data collection. As I ride I am looking at speed, cadence, and distance on the cateye, and heart rate, altitude, temperature, and lap time on the Polar.
I can’t offer anything on the puter, but go to Radio Shack and pick up a packet of their rare-earth magnets for about two bucks. They are tiny, but they are wicked strong. Then take some double sided tape and stick the mag to the wheel. It’ll stay on for quite a while and work like a charm. Just make sure the wheel is good and clean where you stick it on.
I imagine that there is a way, but I’ve never tried it. The ones that come with the computers seem to work just fine for me. I did have to go and buy a Mavic magnet for my SSC SLs, but that was only because the spokes are a goofy shape/size.
These magnets are very small–an therefor aero-- just use a dab of glue to attach them to a spoke. (This is not my bike it is off the weightweenies site:
Love My cat eye double wireless but I find the numbers too small and hard to read- would love a bigger display
I have the same problem. I’m old, what can I say? Then, the thing started acting up on me all the time, even though I replaced all four batteries. One riding buddy of mine has the same problem…it keeps losing it’s SYNC. I finally got tired of losing all the current ride data and went back to another wired Cateye with rear wheel pickup…zero problems with the wired version.
I would recommend the Trek Incite 8i (if you can live without cadence). Easy to install, wireless, big display, looks good. Shallow profile. I have used VDO, Cateye and Polar. This one so far is the best and easiest to use.
