This year I will be racing a small olympic distance race with 4 people i have know since I was 8. We are all in the same age group and we are pretty much brothers. In other words we love each other enough to be out for blood (especially since two of the guys are twins and they are always at each others throats). So thats the set up. Something better than money has to be wagered and I thought I would turn to slowtwitch for help. Any Ideas?

When I beat my brother in a 10K one morning we spent that night out at the bars. The rest of us dressed normal and he wore a dress. He, of course, had to explain why he was in a dress anytime someone asked. Hearing him say because my little brother is better than me a few dozen times that night was music to my ears.
Kinda hard to bet among 4. My bets with a guy I train with is usually loser pays for dinner. With 4, the last place finisher could buy dinner for all. Next to last could buy the drinks. 2nd could pay the tip
Have also seen bets where the loser must wear only a speedo in the next race.

This was a 2 person bet, but you can get the idea: Two buddies bet on the Missouri/Kansas football game last year. Kansas won. So the Missouri fan of the two had to go to the local outdoor ice skating rink (it was about 15 degrees outside), in the middle of a HEAVILY populated shopping area and skate for 5 minutes wearing a little girls pink tutu with a princess crown. He also had to hold up a sign that stated how much he loved Kansas and that they were superior to Missouri. It’s on YouTube somewhere, if I can find it, I’ll post the link. By the time he was done, people were looking out the windows of the near by restaurants and shops, gathering around the rink and even families bringing their kids over to watch. It was almost better than Kansas actually winning the game.
Anyways, maybe you can make something like that for the person that comes in last between your friends?? I’d love to hear what you guys decide on, I always need some good ideas of new ways my buddies and I can humiliate ourselves. 
I have a long time childhood friend who now lives in a different state the biggest baddest most valued bet we ever can have is a signed dollar. What this means is that the loser has to give the winner a dollar. The loser must write on the dollar whatever the winner wishes. Very few of these have ever been exchanged because they are so valued.
The winner then taunts the loser relentlessly with the dollar. There is a lot of faxing of the dollar around the country to every work place and home as well as pictures of the dollar in recognizable places.

A fun thing for us is that the RD is a friend and he will be telling our friends and families what place we are in after each timing mat.

Mr(s) Bubbles and I always time handicap things so he can win once in a bit. We typically bet beer/food or his xbox.
A dollar was lost…
I lost a dollar by getting married first. At my wedding I had to produce the dollar with the note. He was drinking a little too much and mistakenly put the dollar in the money dance. It was never seen again. 14 years latter he still swears I have it hidden.
My standard bet with friends is a 12-pack purchased by the loser, type of beer chosen by the winner. One of my smartypants friends specified Olympia. I found an unopened six-pack on ebay & surprised him with it one night. I made him drink one even though it had to be 20 years old. And yes, he is a pink-dress wearing Jayhawk (so I am shocked he didn’t ask for Zima).
Straight up. I swam in college and expect to start with a lead. The twins are capable of 10k in the mid to upper 30’s but they can’t swim that great. (they ran distance in school.) The fourth is a former football player. I am guaranteed to beat him. I am going to try to get them to join slowtwitch today.

Two friends and I race pretty competitively, typically within 2 minutes of each other, and everyone can claim at least one win over the last year. This year the winter junk talk culminated in establishing the holy grail of winning all 5 splits. Anyone who loses all 5 splits owes everyone who beat him $50. (We’re young and relatively poor. Adjusted for inflation, this is like $5,000.)
