Best bb30 steel bearings

What are some good stainless steel bearings. I’m tired of ceramic, I don’t got the money to replace those every 8 months

Buy the friction facts test. Cost of the results + cost of your new BB is way cheaper than the ceramic bearings you might pick. Also faster.

I beg to differ…Hawk Racing: end of thread. I sported for a Wheels Mfg pressfit 30 instead of the standard Sram BB and the fucking thing felt like it had gravel in it after two months. Even the best ceramic bearing manufacturers agree that Hawk is right there with them in terms of friction, and surpasses them in durability.

BB30 was designed by mfg’s to pass the cost of bottom bracket replacement to the end user. You. Do yourself a favor, go out and buy a quality frameset that uses a real threaded bottom bracket and toss the BB30 away forever.

Angular contact? That’s important IME.

I beg to differ on the reason (more about manufacturing cost and feature mis-optimization)…but agree on the sentiment.

Not to mention that there are products now to turn certain BB30 frames into “threaded”.

yes you can buy an FSA insert for your BB30 equipped frameset. However most of those frames out there with the BB30 bb set up also suffer from other maladies. Very high on that list is structural frame failure due to not enough material where its important.** This is primarily due to mfg’s quest for bikes that weigh less.** (all of this goes out the window when the triathlete puts 4+ large bottles on the bike for a sprint/oly/half/or full triathlon.)

Hence, my comment about mis-optimization

Wheels MFG doesn’t even have ceramic headset bearings. Can’t take them seriously.

Which frames have structural frame failures? I have 3 BB30 frames, 2 Felt’s and a Cannondale. The Felt’s are very beefy around the BB while my Cannondale is an Aluminum MTB. Even my GF’s Cannondale Slice is beefy around the BB area. Perhaps you are referring to a different manufacturer?

Was wondering the same thing. Creak yes, but can be solved with the right installation process and know-how. Chronic frame structural failure, NO.

Maybe some of your bb problems can be associated the this:

This is about what I’ve gotten from your posts:

Read: a bunch of fluff and hokey pokey. If you’re going to claim something with a modicum of authority and flourish big words, you’d better back it up with some hard facts.

this bike shop sells a custom made bb30 bottom bracket bearing device.

i have heard really good things about it.
from people who have had it installed.

if you buy the tools you can replace them yourself, they tend to leak and wear out in wet conditions.

If you want a quality bearing, the Phil Wood are very nice

If you remove the cranks and wipe the bearings down then glop grease on the face, it seems to keep the water out. Some people also drill a drain hole in the BB shell.

The design is not very good

I have been using Enduro bearings for a few years now and have not had a problem with them to date- still running smooth.

So far, I have had great luck with the Hawk BB30 bearings in steel. Friction (as far as I can tell the not always reliable via spin test) is very low, bearings are in alloy cups, and it is clearly a quality product. Price is reasonable as well.

Enduro are as good as any. Just peel back the seals and pack more grease in them.
