Something to ponder if you had $4g’s to spend on a bike no wheels. what would it be? Just frame, fork, group, bars.

Yeah, and don’t let people fool you that you need $4000 for some real GOOD coaching, LOL.
CAT Cheetah, fast and aero.
Second possibility might be that BMC frame that Phonak was using.
Road bike? Colnago C-50 or the new Pinarello Dogma. Not that they’re any giant step up from my Trek OCLV, but they’re new and they’re ITALIAN!!! (at least they’re painted in Italy). Image is everything…
OF course those are more than 4K out the door with Campy Record Carbon…
I think I’d get a BT with a Record track group.

4000 for coaching? Good lawd. I remember back in the mid-90’s, I had Troy Jacobson and what was then his full-boat coaching service. 80 bucks a month, and he got me to a couple sub-10 IM finishes. I hear he charges way more than that, now.

Oh, and something in carbon this time around. Preferably from E-bay, and with tri geometry. And in 650c.
I’ll take the money I save from buying it on Ebay, and spend the rest on race wheels.

The best $4000. bike is the two year old version that’s now up for sale on ebay that sold for that price when it was new, because now it’s only worth about half that original price.
That’s gotta sting. I wonder if the qualitative difference is any greater from 1250 a month down to the 80 dollars a month I used to pay? I took on my own care and feeding when I got a degree in exercise physiology for my own edification.

"and they’re ITALIAN!!! "
Yeah, and so was my first wife!!! Let’s not go there!
You’re right, mon ami. But, he and a few others of the “name” coaches market to a well-heeled clientele. I remember looking at my weekly regimen (which he emailed or faxed to me) and at another athlete’s less-expensive program from him, and there was no real difference. I guess mine was more expensive because I got to talk by phone with him once or twice a week.
He mainly stuck to the “3 hours of bike at aerobic effort, rest 10 minutes, then 30 minutes of run at aerobic effort” kind of stuff. Not putting it down in the least (I did go from mid-packer to winning overall titles and ranked in the top 5% in the USAT 35-39 AG with him), just that 1250 a month for that kind of advice (plus what you’d pay to go to a tri camp, videos, books, tapes etc.) for a non-professional is, like, the ultimate ego endorsement, n’cest pas?

Yaqui Carbo…Scandium with carbon stays, and guaranteed to fit like a dream and first rate service from Ves.
yeah, for that amount of money you are paying an awful lot for your ‘hobby’. Of course, if it’s your money, and you earned it the hard way…who am I to judge?
So far I have a couple of carbon bikes and some other folks discomfort with spending 4g’s on a new bike.
what about Ti, seven, serotta, merlin etc?
I am polling for interest to see what will gain the most “Rack Cred”
I am still going to push the 55 and go 15hrs for im
Current ride is a TCR with HED3’s if that gives a reference.

I still want a Kestrel KM40, or the new Airfoil Pro, just because they look so quirky. The frame, an Ultegra/Syntace gruppo and a set of Spinergys and I’ll be happy.

elite razor. top of the line package and cashish to spare. i never thought alu could be so comfortable.
dave greenfield is swell dude too. you get free service at big races too. me likes that.
Get the bike that fits the best. Hey! Get a beam bike. Your butt will love you and you can vary the geometry all over the place.

The first bikes re-racked at T2 get the most “Rack Cred” with me ![]()
.
Buy a Pinarello Montelo or the new Pinarello “time trial”, don’t know the model name… And then also DA-10, and what you can get for the rest of the money.
You can’t even sniff a Pinarello TT bike of any name for 4k…not even the frame…unless its stolen and for sale on Ebay.
