I have been looking for a Bento box that will fit on my Trek Equinox…the frame is too wide for the standard one without adding a lot of velcro. I have searched the internet for way too long & have not found anything. Does anyone know of something that would work on this type of frame? Right now, I have an aero box, but would like to take that off so I have room for my aero bottle. I know they make an aero bottle/bag thing & I bought one of those also but do not have enough length in my aero bars for it.
For training rides I use one at the seatpost/top tube. I have the aero seat tube and the bento box barely fits around it but it is just enought to hold it in place. The velcro rubs a bit on the inside of the leg but it is only for training and not racing. I will ditch it during races.
two ideas, variations on the same theme. pictured below is my sprint rigging…small bento strapped to my spare tubie with the opening facing forwards and the unused straps coming over the top for extra hold-it-in protection. stays put no problem. sorry for the front-focus…quickie shot.
for longer stuff like HIM where I use the bento for an extra CO2 and my endurolytes box, which I like to get into every hour to pop a pill, I strap it to the back of the seatpost and crisscross the unused straps and velcro them to themselves underneath. I used to set it up in front of the post as another poster mentioned, but it annoyed me when I tapped it with my scrawny thighs every now and then…did work, though. might try the sprint rig for this weekend’s HIM, now that I think about it, as I could just strap to the tubie with opening upwards. the question is whether or not it’s easier to get into at that height or when it’s below the saddle.
the key to either of them is to remove the plastic reinforcement “plates” as necessary (some, not all) to ensure the bento will conform to the post profile (HIM rig) or squeeze tight enough to keep a minimal load from rattling around and out (both rigs, but especially sprint).
