does anyone else wonder how this guy keeps getting jobs?
does he suck, at acting, or do i not recognize his talent?
I recently watched The Town and Argo, both starring Ben Affleck and directed by him.
Re: Ben’s acting - while he was not terrible in either movie, he certainly wasn’t good. Most of his lines come off like he is just trying way too hard. It kind of works in Kevin Smith movies where the bad over acting gives the movies their low budget charm, but it doesn’t work at all for these types of roles. Specifically bothering to me was his connection (or lack there of) with his love interest in the town. At no point while watching that movie did it ever look like either one should have any feelings whatsoever for the other person. Each scene looked like an awkward first date between two people who have no chemistry and nothing in common.
Having said that, I thought the directing of The Town was decent, and I thought it was actually top notch in Argo. Argo, was in fact, one of the few movies I’ve seen where I really thought they captured the moment of the time period/setting of the movie.
So while Ben sucks as an actor (and he really does), I think he’s got some decent directing talent.

I’ll second that. He is much better at directing then acting. Gone baby gone was another good one he directed.

A good friend of mine has the last name Affleck. He constantly gets asked “So… are you related, you know, to Ben Affleck?” to which his standard response is “Not after Gigli came out, I’m not!”
