This morning I collided with a bee. Damn near went straight down my throat, fortunately it got caught up on my lip, so for the next 3 hours or so I had a huge, huge fat lip. It made it quite hard to drink anything.
Made me laugh after the swelling started to go down.
Got hit right underneath my eye yesterday by a Bumblebee at 25+ mph… I dont *think *it stung me but the impact only really shook me up… got a nice shiner this morning.
Got nailed on my tongue. Dead-center. The bastard was on the tip of my water bottle. I reached back, grabbed the bottle, shoved it in my mouth and got pierced! Here’s the bitch of it: I’m very allergic to bee stings. Here’s the bigger bitch of it: it happened at about mile 100 of a 112 mile ride. Here’s the biggest bitch of it: it happened about a year ago. During IMC. My tongue blew up to the size of a cow’s. Got sick. I couldn’t eat at all on the run. Could barely get any water down. Needless to say I did not PR that day.
A hornet hit me in the knee and decided it wanted to leave it’s stinger in me. I am not allergic (which I found out that day). I stopped and rubbed the stinger off with my finger nail. Got to the car and wiped it with some sting relief in my first aid kit. That’s about it!
Got one stuck in my helmet once…almost made me crash…getting stung in the head is big time painful…now whenever I get a fly or moth stuck up there, I ride in extreme fear:)
About 2 weeks ago efernand and I were going for a long run on a Tuesday evening. I left my water bottle in the house. We usually do not use a key to get in, we just use the garage door. The battery died on the garage door opener and we were locked out of the house. So I (being the lighter one), climbed up and over the balcony in the back and there happened to a bee hive between the hot tub and the balcony railing. I disturbed them and three of the stung me in about a 1/2 second, 2 on the chest and 1 just below my belly button. I screamed and cried and swelled up. Eric immediately came to my rescue. When he realized that I was not going to die and I was still breathing and I was calming down, he went out for the run. I was to traumatized by the experience so I did not run.
Today we were at the Windsor Triathlon and there were alot of bees around the post race food. I ran away from the bees and ate my lunch in the car. The above experience totally traumatized me. Prior to that bees did not bother me.
I was going downhill last week, about 30 mph when a bee flew into my cycling jersey. I had left it partially unzipped to look sexy. Somehow the bee stung me twice, maybe there were two bees. I got one right above the HRM strap and one just above my shorts.
I’m not alergic, but it definately hurt. The welts took about 4 or 5 days to go away. Today I wore the same jersey and kept it fully zipped! You don’t look sexy when your all welted with bee stings!
got my first sting in a few years today at Lansing Legislator 1/2. sucker got caught up in my helmet.
i’ve got a ton of vents in mine but it was buzzin’ away up there, couldn’t find a way out, and didn’t sound happy. i decided to stop and get it out but too late. come to think about it…maybe that’s why the monster headache dropped down on me not much later.
