OK, people, help me out here. You know that song “Rental Car”? There’s a riff in there near the end, right before the “la la la la la la la love you” bit that reminds me of some other song. I think he lifted it, but I can’t figure out from where. It’s driving me nuts.
it sounds (to me) a lot like the “la-la-la-la” part of the chorus to Suede’s 1996 quasi-hit “Beautiful Ones”
but i think the only (actual) sample is the break…Petra Haden is in on backing vocals
i like the new album, but i still like “Sea Change” better…perhaps because i’m a sackless wussy-man who loves lush string arrangements.
