Beards and sports

im thinking abt growing a bit of a beard. how much time will it cost me in the swim?haha

Seals have whiskers and they can swim fast, right? Should be no problem then.

I hear John Cobb is testing a special face speedsuit which will save bearded athletes 0.1s over 40km on the bike

haha. i thought beards were cool now anyway. only athletes u ever see with em are tennis players.

Nah, don’t do it. Sean Eadie has a beard looks bad with a helmet.

Yeah but it didnt stop him winning the world championship.

it’ll be a short clippered beard not a colonel sanders/jello biafra job like sean eady.

I’m not sure about beards, but it was a well known fact in the 1970’s that a properly trimmed 'stache decreased wind/water-resistance and led to faster times both in running and swimming:

It’s abotu the engine, right? So, less time shaving = more time for training = faster races. That’s what I’ve been doing. Besides, a study of aerodynamics shows that a closely trimmed beard disturbs the airflow around the face in such a manner as to increase the overall stability of the rider/bike combination and decrease the airflow disruption behind the helmet.

Now mullets on the other hand are entirely different story.

You mean he won a world champoionship with a wooden leg???

Arrrrgh, where’s me parrot??? Arrrrgh.

I think that Mark Spitz said that the 'stache helped keep the water out of his mouth when swimming butterfly so it could actually increase your speed.
