Bear Grylls, miles from civilization and in dangerous territory... or not (video)

There have been lots of posts about Bear here so hopefully this isn’t off topic… I’ve heard stories about him in not-so-remote locations and staying in hotels and all, but I just saw this today and it’s hilarious!!!

(Watch the WHOLE thing…)

LOL… that’s pretty good stuff. Yards from civilization, and as always, out of breath.

Yeah, I was always more impressed with the cameraman. At least he’s in the same situations and WORKING.

I guess the guy doesn’t impress me much, since no matter where he goes, the camera has to get there first.

I’m crying that is so hilarious!!!

You should check out Survivorman. I haven’t seen BG’s show, but the commercials make it sound very similar to Survivorman, except Les would spend an entire week in some remote location TOTALLY ALONE. He had to lug his own gear (55 lbs. total) and film everything himself. He’d get all of these shots of himself walking off into the distance climbing some canyon wall or a glacier, then he’d have to do it again to come back and pick everything up. It still gets repeated pretty often on one of the Discovery networks (Science, I think).

Agreed, Les is the man! Plus he gets so irritated with carrying around the camera (but he knows he has to), its classic! And Les, just looks like the guy next door.

Yes Les is totally alone the show serves no purpose what so ever. Really if i wanted to see somebody survive on their own i’d watch Castaway or something. What I’ve found is that Bear actually teaches you things. I mean I have skills I learned from that show to literally catch forage my own food for several days (my brother said I couldn’t). So really it depends on what kind of tv you like. If you like to learn and be involved in a show then Man vs. Wild is the way to go. If you just like to sit back and watch somebody work then watch Survivorman.

I think James Kim followed Grylls’ jump in the water as much as possible to find civlization advice.

Discovery doesn’t seen to show Man v. Wild anymore.

Just showed my 13 year old son. He said, “Thanks, dad.” With disdain and left the room. Is this worse than no Santa?
.

Say what you will about Bear, but if I had to choose someone to be lost in the wilderness with, he’d be at the top of my list.

I think we all know the show is there to entertain–I’m still entertained watching it, anyway.

Yeah, that’s a good point. you’d be better off with him then with my sorry ass.

And now that I think about it, what better wilderness skill is there than finding a road with lots of cars? I’ll tell you, hitch-hiking to the closest restaurant beats the hell out of eating wild plants and killing small animals with rocks.

They’re both fun shows to watch and very informative, but anyone who thinks either one of those shows is 100% authentic is kidding themselves.

I guess I agree with you. I feel like I learn a little more from the Man Vs. Wild show. How many knots does that freakin’ guy know how to tie, anyway?? The other thing that’s fun about the Bear show is he uses his athleticism a bunch. It’s cool to see him scaling and traversing all those trees, rockfaces, etc…

Survivorman might be a little more helpful for the everyday person, though. If a guy carrying a 50lb. pack can do it, you figure you can. A lot of the stuff Bear does just isn’t going to be possible for a very large segment of the population.

Do we all just love Bear or what? The guy just has it going on. Alright, so he’s an over-actor and a bunch of his stuff is staged BUT the guy still does some amazing stuff and c’mon, who wants to see that Les guy take off his clothes and do push ups in the snow? I saw Survivor Man once, he decided to stay in the same place for a few days because he had a good shelter built and had water. Then he hiked out from there. How real is that? Plus it’s boring!

Bear is a compelling guy which is why people are talking about him so much. I wish him continued success and hope he does more naked push ups on tv again very soon.

Honestly I’ve never seen either of the shows mentioned… I don’t really watch television other than the occasional sports or special… but they sound interesting.

I just thought this clip was hilarious and shows how distorted editing and acting can make things look very different on TV.

It figures…While I do enjoy watching the show I’ve found myself questioning it a couple of times. In one episode he’s going down some rapids (Colorado I think). If you look closely at his shirt you’ll see that it looks really bulky. It looks like he’s got a life jacket on underneath, something like you’d wear kayaking. You really notice it when he initially gets out of the water. At first it’s there and then they splice the footage and it’s gone.

I knew there had to be a clip out there of this! This was the first (and only) episode I watched of this worthless poser.

Very obvious that he’s wearing a life jacket underneath.
