I moved to Boston a couple of months ago and have finally settled into post-collegiate life. Feeling ready to find a group of people to make me suffer a little more.
Anyone have insight as to groups that are located in the area and the different personalities they attract?
There are a bunch of teams in the area. It really depends on what you’re looking for. Do you know what you want from the team? I’m part of Zoom Multisport and so are some other members on here (as well as our coach). We have people doing their first ever races at all distances as well as guys who can do sub-11 IM or have qualified for 70.3 world championships.
We do a monthly social, team rides, team races, weekly spin during winter, morning swims at Walden, all that fun training stuff. We mix the fun and the challenge so that no matter what you’re looking for, someone probably matches your skill/interest level.
Chris
P.S. Other teams I gave a small thought to before dating someone on Zoom and joining the team were BTT (Boston Triathlon Team) and Wheelworks Multisport.
Thanks a lot for replying. I’m looking for a mix of abilities and backgrounds. My college club had a complete mix of beginner to IM guys and I believe both types of people add something to a team.
How would you recommend meeting some people and learning a little more about the team? Is there someone I should specifically speak to?
No worries Rich. That’s definitely what we have and a wide mix at that. I would definitely recommend coming out to the TriMania expo at MIT this month on the 29th (free to register if you haven’t yet).
We’ll have our tent set up at the expo but if you want to meet some people ahead of time, bring your bike and a trainer to Boston Sports Med in Allston next Wednesday at 5:30am. It’s not easy to get a lot of people to drag themselves out of bed and come down but when we do it’s a good time.
We have a few people who manage events, communication, and run the team. I’ll PM you some names and our site to check out!
Baystate Triathlon team is a large team, in Boston. As I recall the triathlon scene there is ok at best, but a lot of people training alone. Check out FastSplits and walden pond for folks training.
Most people aren’t from “Boston” mainly the burbs. And I’ve heard many people from MA call it Beantown
Many of the teams around here are a bit odd IMO, some that aren’t odd Pegasus Elite Triathlon and Boston Tri Team, BSTT is great if you like going on group rides with 60yo dudes wearing full sleeveless Tri kit and aero lid.
