Hello BC STers,
Anyone know of a good sports med doctor I can go to for a hernia repair? Just had a bit of a relapse tonight after the big one at IMC07. I want to get the mesh put in and really have no idea where to start. Heck, I don’t even have a family doctor!
I live in Vancouver, but am on the island a lot with work so can travel to find the best…

Get a referral to the Allan MacGavin Sports Med Clinic at UBC.
Dr. Jack Taunton is the best of the best! (he may be out of UBC… can’t remember these days, but he was named Chief Medical Officer for 2010). Look for him. You’ll probably be waiting quite a while to see him, but it’s totally worth it.
Thanks, I saw that name on another thread… You’ll have to excuse my ignorance. Though I’m born and raised in Canada, I’ve never really needed much in the way of medical care so far. Guess my luck has run out!
To do that I need to see a doctor and then I can just ask them to refer me to the clinic? I didn’t realize you could request specific clinics. Shows how out of the loop I am!

If you are in the Greater Vancouver area, that is the clinic you’ll likely be referred to. I doubt you’ll need to be concerned with which doc you see out there. I believe in BC one must still see a GP for a referral. I’m in AB now, and it’s the same drill out here.
