BB90 Question - RE Speed Concept

I want to transfer my SRAM Force crankset (English threaded GXP bottom bracket) from my Felt B12 to my Speed Concept but am unclear if this will work. I am completely unfamiliar with BB90. Can anyone provide any insight?

As long at the Speed Concept has SRAM compatible press fit bearings the Force crankset will work just fine.

I can’t say for sure about sram, but shimano cranks will work if you use a “shimano press fit BB” and adaptor (but just to confuse riders, the BB system on the trek is also called ‘bb90’ even the though the BB is 86.5mm wide).

Here is a bit more info about the adapters:

Crank installation notes for compatible makes and models can be found here: http://www.trekbikes.com/pdf/2011/service_manuals/Trek_2011_Speed_Concept_Service_Manual.pdf

Yeah, I looked at that. Still doesnt tell me much (it probably should and does to most, but not to me). Will my dealer have whatever is needed to put the Force crank on or will parts have to be ordered?

Depends on the dealer…

Is the “Di2 document” available online?

Assume you mean the Di2 installation addendum to our SC service manual? Looked everywhere I could think of (both consumer and dealer websites) to see if we had it up yet and no joy. Making inquiries as to the ETA. In the meantime, I’m happy to answer questions as best I can, maybe even with pics.

Yes. Thanks, no specific questions yet (apart from the probably stupid "How do have wire(s) going through the bb shell? Doesn’t the bb get in the way?) Still awaiting my SC, was due to be finished Monday but now bumped back to Friday and I guess shipping from Germany isn’t going to progress much over the weekend. I’ve not used Di2 previously either so no experience with setting it up on a different bike. To add to my woes it looks like the “Di2 fit kit” isn’t going to be available for a while.

But dual shifting is perfect for the Norseman course so I’m keen to make it work.

Di2 is hard to keep in stock.

Our frame is open inside from front to back, so it’s quite easy to run the Di2 wiring with the cranks & BB spindle protector out of the bike and make all your connections there. Also possible to leave those in and make all your connections at the large port near the front-underside of the BB where our cablestop/cableguide would normally sit. Not easy that way, but possible.

If your bike is shipping from Germany, I take it you went P1? I was just there helping them work through their first SC builds, including a Di2 bike. If memory serves, you were piecing together the parts you needed and just going frameset, or do I remember that incorrectly? If you got any of the Di2 via P1 then their team installs it and does a functional check before it ships. In any case, they were definitely up to speed when I left…these actually go down their line faster than Madones.

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully it will make sense when I get working on it. If you do manage to track down the di2 info, please let me know.

Project 1 yes. I out down my deposit 4 days after release and the frameset wasn’t an option at the time. The Di2 build was a huge mark up over Red/ Dura Ace so I went with the cheapest build with the view of either using the groupset and wheels from my current tri bike or buying in Di2 components. The rival bits will go on my falling-apart-training bike.

Brilliant to hear they are up to speed, a further delay would make things very tight for getting it fully pimped up with di2 in time for Norseman. My dealer said the delay was due to having to re-build some madones due to some bad frame decals. Hopefully they don’t get any more.

Really bad news. My LBS is now being told it will not be ready till the 30th. 8 days ago I was expecting it to be finished today. 1 day ago I was expecting to be finished on Friday. Now it’s 2 weeks on Friday. That’s 3 days after I fly to Norway for some last minute training before attempting to defend my best of British title at Norseman. It’s also 6 days after the upper limit of the 45-60 days quote I was given before ordering.

Seriously unimpressed. “Due to the custom nature of these bikes not all of the parts arrive when they should and this causes the delays” is what they have told my LBS. What?! They’ve known exactly what is needed for this build since May 25th. Up till a week ago I was very impressed with the whole process. Slow but (nearly) sticking to the date they’d given early on, a great range of options from crank length to cassette ratio. I’ve never looked forward to a new bike as much as this, never followed the development so closely and never before paid full RRP for a new bike. Now I’m very close to cancelling and waiting till the 2011 Felt is released.

Taking this one to PM-land.
