BB torque spec question

I recently installed a new BB in my bike with external bearing cups (Zipp) and it calls for something like 40Nm of torque. The only problem is that you get that special wrench with the BB and there is no place to hook a Torque wrench.

This maybe a silly question, but is there a crow’s foot specially made for these BB cups? Or is this a case of 40Nm = Crank the hell out of it and call it good.

Also where to find some Ti prep (copper slip) if not at the LBS?

You can get a fitting for a torque wrench. I’d just torque it down with the tool and call it a day. It’s a reasonably short tool so that will limit the amount of torque you can put on it.

Tried the local Auto Zone? They also have Ti prep (silver) which would work just as well. You can pick it up at the counter for 99 cents.

there’s a park-tool designed for those BB-cups with a fitting for a torque wrench.

Either buy the tool and torque to spec, or;

crank the shit out of it and call it good.

I’ve done both with exactly the same results, the only difference is I’m $10 more confident in option A.

I would get the Park tool for that one. If you use the ShitMano tool, or even the one that comes with Zipp it is easy to slip off, and no way to torque it. The Park one fits over like an oil filter tool and will fit a 3/8 tq wrench. Small price to pay for such a high end BB with such soft Al cups. Dont forget the Ti AntiSeize.

Pedros makes one too!
