Battlestar Galactica - I knew it! (spoilers!)

Killing off Baltar and Starbuck would immediately improve this series. I still love the show, but I would be even happier if they did that.

Just be glad they didn’t include that kid (Boxy?) and that mechanical dog. The kid and perhaps the dog as well were in the deleted scenes from season 1.

Now that I think about it, I don’t think I’ve seen any animals on the show (not including the raiders).

There was a dog in New Caprica, but I thing that’s the only animal I’ve seen.

Baltar’s lawyer had a cat as I recall…

Yeah, the Cyclons can be confusing at times. How many basestars are there? Is there a single mothership? I would have like the writers to acknowledge the hits the Cylons took from the fleet. I just watched Exodus again and they destroyed two basestars in that episode. It would be great to hear Six or some other Cylon say something along the lines of “We can’t keep losing basestars, we’re down to just two and these humans are proving more difficult to destroy than we ever conceived.” It seems all the losses on Galactica are felt but none with the Cylons. Okay, I probably spent way too much time thinking about this.

Maybe the two could get accidentally sucked out thru a malfunctioning air lock?

Maybe the two could get accidentally sucked out thru a malfunctioning air lock?

Well, close call. Right method (aside the malfunctioning part), wrong character. Wow, I sure hope BSG isn’t going to be this depressing for the rest of the season. It seems like all the characters are butting heads and there’s nothing but strife. And please, please no more crying baby episodes.

On the plus side, no Baltar this episode and the Cylon insurrection story line is great, if not a little confusing.

Anyone else catch the star trek reference?

Anyplace to download “Missed” episodes. Life got in the way again last week and I forgot to DVR it. I think it was a “Pivitol” episode too and probably can’t miss it.

I hate to see her go but it’ll add some major drama once the truth is known about what really happened.

You can watch them for free on scifi.com although I found the sound to be a bit garbled when I tried. Of course, that may have just been Cmdr Adama’s normal speech ; )

Go to www.scifi.com/battlestar

You can watch the season 4 episodes there.

“Anyone else catch the star trek reference?”

All they were missing was the NCC.

Interesting where this is all going. You had what’s her name kill to protect their secret. Also remember, Tigh killed his wife to punish her for giving aid to the Cylons during the occupation. So I wonder if deep down there is some programming where this is tied together. I deep seeded nonchalant attitude towards the sanctitiy of human life? Some feeling of superiority? Both were fairly cold blooded acts.

I love BSG but have always had a fundemental question about the entire “Earth is the lost 13th colony”. I’ve posted on a few BSG fan sites, but no one has ever responded to this question.

If the lost tribe left for Earth thousands of years ago, how did they get there? It doesn’t seem like FTL travel in the BSG verse has been around that long. Did they use some sort of generational ship? Or is this something we just take on faith like all the ships having gravity?

I don’t know. They obviously had some sort of deep space flight, but whether they did a version of what is happening now (now it is both generational and with FTL) or what I don’t know. Remember though, early on Adama said that the official stance of the higher ups was that there was no 13th tribe and no Earth. But he was using that as “the hope” to keep people alive. Now, obviously, the story since has shown that there is an Earth, but was there a 13th tribe? Or did Earth send people out and they became the 12 tribes and the history was mangled?

I’ve tried to guess what the endgame would be. It seems they find Earth, but what Earth? I think the Earth they find is one where man evolved, sent out the tribes, and then was destroyed, either by their own hands or some cataclysm. Then it’s up to the “humans” and the skin toasters to re-start humanity and they end up inter-breeding.

Good theory. I like the idea of the 12 colonies being from Earth. It has that whole Firefly them to it or even a variation of the Stargate theme where all humans originated on Earth, then were spread to the stars either by their own means or another race.

I wish one of these shows would address the presence of gravity onboard the ships. BSG takes pains to employ some hard science in their story lines i.e. no sound in space, the Vipers must spin and use their thrusters to go in the opposite direction, no laser cannons, but rather they use good old fashion bullets, but they never address that all the ships have gravity. I think of all the sci fi movies and shows over the years, I can think of only the 2001/2010 franchise addressing the gravity onboard ships issue.

BSG does use sounds in space, but it isn’t nearly as prevalant as something as Star Wars or Star Trek. I never watch B5 or Farscape, but the only show that I can recall that didn’t use sounds in space was Firefly.

Here is my theory.

  1. BSG is happening very, very far in the future.
  2. Civilization on Earth continues to develop from today’s perspective.
  3. At some point in the future after humanity develops FTL travel, Earth becomes uninhabitable or some other reason why a group of people decided to leave Earth. It could be that the original Earthians created Cylons for the first time and a war ensues.
  4. The survivors leave Earth and eventually settle on Kobol.
  5. There, to prevent what happened before, they decide that a less technological society is better so they destroy a lot of their technology and records of it and go back to a more simple lifestyle.
  6. Society advances and eventually they develop FTL technology again.
  7. Something happens on Kobol and they need to leave it like they did to Earth.
  8. This time, the society divides into 13 groups. 12 of them form the 12 colonies and the 13th group tries to go back to Earth, but is never heard from again.
  9. Society continues to develop on the 12 colonies and they create the Cylons for the 2nd time in humanity’s history.
  10. Cylons and humans fight and call a truce.
  11. Humans once again go back to a more simple lifestyle, but not to the effect that they did when they settled on Kobol.
  12. Cylons attack again and wipe out humanity except for about 50k survivors. They are now in search of Earth, the lost 13th colony.
  13. They’ll eventually find Earth with humans from the 13th colony which is very advanced compared to our current technology.

That’s my idea though.

I just feel like these guys have some huge bang in store for the ending. What if they finally find Earth, and it’s all inhabited by 6’s! I’d call that Heaven.

Seriously, what if the 13th tribe were who the Cylons patterned the skin-toasters from?

I agree that there will probably be some shocking piece at how Cylons fit into the human history that has been forgotten.
