As discussed elsewhere last year I bought the 80v Kobalt mower. Wife loves it (yes my wife mows the lawn). Anyhow some have asked, how does it do in long spring grass. Well its been a wet spring in Michigan. Measured this area of grass before mowing its in the 8" - 10"

Drove 2 Volts for a total of 5 yrs (2 3yr leases that overlapped) If GM made a VOLT SUV or even an EV SUV with a incetivides lease HELL YEAH. Wife really want an SUV so I took over her VOLT when It was time to turn mine in. She LOVED the EV but wanted to sit up higher.
Need a car for trips to Cleveland or Mt. Pleasant to get kids, but for driving around town, daily driving. HELL YEAH. Nothing gives you the torque and smooth quiet accel of an EV. I don’t give a shit about the debatable environmental impact. Performance and quietness are the most important things to me.
I have the Kobalt mower also. Was just telling the wife today that I enjoy the mower.
We have a 1/4 acre. I get 3 mows per battery charge.
Do you worry about the battery losing it’s ability to Charge, or the $359 cost for additional battery? I’m really interested in electric mowers, but fear the battery issue. Or not being able to find replacement batteries when I finally need them 4-5 years down the road.

$359 for a battery??? where are you buying it from cause your getting ripped off. My mower with 2 batteries was only $300.

I bought a third battery off ebay for about $80. Then I bought the Snowblower and it came with the bigger battery.
No real concern these Kobalt/Greenwork have been making these batteries for a few years, worst case you could open the pack and replace the internal battery

WHOA 80V 6Ah battery shit that would run a long time… Since the 2.5Ah are about $100 I guess it makes sense that a 6Ah would be that much, but shit you could mow for like 2hrs straight with that battery.

I guess the quick lesson look at what they have for sale, and not some Q&A
For mowing the 2 2Ah batteries that come with the mower work great, takes about 30 min to charge and you get about 40min of run time, so you can go forever.
Just bought one of these with the 6kwh battery, I think. ~$550 out the door. Had a ~3yo toro timemaster that pretty much sucked. It was okay for a year then went downhill to the point where the electric start didn’t work, then the pull start didn’t work, then the blade cable broke… Once started, it struggled with our very healthy lawn.
This Kobalt tore through the way too long lawn (2wks growth ~8†with max cut, ~4â€) and easily did 1/2 of my yard (got dark) on a charge. I have ~1/2 acre of grass, and it ran for 30-60min.
My 12yo (who is responsible for the lawn) prefers it to the loud toro bigly.
I have 29 more days to decide but I think that the toro is gonzo…color me impressed.
If I replace it , it will be with one of the Husqvarna robot mowers.
They are quiet, lighter to push, and way less stinky than the old gas mowers. If you have a huge thick turf yard they may be in over their head, but I sure like the electric ones better for my yard.

After ~ 25 years and minimal maintenance, my craftsman mower finally died in spectacular fashion yesterday. Blew a hole in the block, oil all over my sidewalk.
I looked at the Kobalt 80V, but it’s currently $725 at Lowe’s here in Canada. Money is tight at the moment, so that will have to wait.
In the meantime, looks like I’ll have to pick up a cheap used gas mower to get me through the summer.

Yeah, the 21" 56v EGO is cheaper, but still $600. I can get the 40v Kobalt for under $400, but I think i need more power as my old 3.5 hp would struggle.
Maybe they will go on sale in the fall? I have no idea though as I’ve never bought a mower (inherited the craftsman from my grandma 17 years ago).
