I am sure this one will get a number of repsonses, but I have a fundamental question about Vo2 Max vs. Lactate Threshold. Although I have a VERY BASIC understanding of the two, I would be very interested in hearing a simple explanation of the two and how you can use you HR to see where you are. I have read a bunch of articles, etc. but they always tend to get too granular for my purposes. Any examples would also help. I am a 38 year old male, with a resting HR of 48 and a max of 183.
I know this is basic stuff for most of you, but this was one of those moments when it dawned on me that hey, I don’t really understand this stuff like I thought.
Dude, everytime I have posted on this forum and you have responded, it’s never been productive or encouraging. At some point, dont’ you get bored with being trite, but not quite funny?
If you did your homework, came back to the Forum and asked this or that specific question, I wouldn’t mind helping you out. But basically you come out and say “I won’t bother with doing my research, why don’t YOU guys do it for me, I’ll sit and wait…”. There’s a guy above that found you a link, you’re telling me you couldn’t find it on your own?
Well since you asked (and obviously didn’t read my post very carefully) . . .
As I stated, I have read several pieces on the topic (including the articles cited by the other posters). And although they are informative, I was hoping that STers could provide some insight and “real world” examples as opposed to the clinical discussions contained in many articles.
If you are so easily offended by someone’s perceived laziness, as well as being incorrect about such perception, I think many of us would prefer that you refrain from chastising fellow posters. We all went to grade school and don’t need to be slapped on the wrist any longer. You must be a real motivator and inspiration to your clients, if you have any.
FWIW, I think this horse is dead so please, even if it’s difficult, try to refrain from responding and let those of us who seek advice actually obtain it.
Jeez it’s not like the guys ringing you up or knocking on your door. If you think he’s lazy and undeserving of your wisdom ignore him - in the time it took to post your reply/replies you could have said something useful!
As ever gordo has got plenty to say on the subject - I don’t think this is too complicated by his standards:
aahhh…BRAIN …IS …CRAMPING…Am I the only one that gets all glassy eyed reading this stuff? While that is a “less technical” explanation and likely the more real world explanation the poster was looking for, I just can’t get into it. I am not a great athlete (anymore??) by any means and maybe this is why, but I have no heart monitor (I have been on one before), no Garmin, no computer on my roadbike. I just try to use my common sense, work my ass off when I can and float a little bit when I need to. When I can’t go all out, I slow down. After a few hard days I take a recovery easier day. I don’t know what my lactate threshold is and to be very honest, I don’t care. I guess I am a “percieved effort” kind of guy but I don’t break the effort ammounts down by name.
I jump in my truck and go out scouting routes, measuring mileage as I go. Nothing fancy. My guess is this is why I will never be fast but I will have fun doing it…And my eyes won’t glass over.
Your username seems to be only half right. You flatter yourself with the “smart” part. Try substituting “jack” in place of “smart.”
LOL… that’s why I just call him “asscoach”.
And just why the hell shouldn’t he ask “these kind of questions” in a forum, eso. this forum? He and anyone else can ask whatever in god’s name they want to ask. If you don’t want to answer them…don’t! Is that concept too hard to grasp? No need for some cheap smack-down. And by the way, most of us can attend to our own well-care.
