I did a track workout last week and decided to run my final cool down lap without shoes. I discovered that without shoes, my heel strike was quite pronounced – jarring, in fact – and I ended up running towards the front of my foot. I’m wondering whether this is a sign of a form flaw that has been disguised by my running shoes or whether it’s a natural adjustment to running barefoot (especially on a surface like a track rather than a softer surface such as grass). FWIW, I run in Mizuno Wave Creation and am a slight supinator. I don’t have any long-term plans to become a barefoot runner, but would certainly use it if it reveals form issues.
Please feel free to post links to other barefoot running discussions. There have been so many and I certainly haven’t read them all – the answer to my question may be buried within one of them.
