I knew you would look… Doing my first Oly distance race this weekend and wondering if I should bring along a tubie spare, CO2 cartridge, etc. or just wing it. For 1/2’s I’ve always packed a spare of course but have gone without it for the sprints, figuring if I flat there’s no chance for glory. What does everyone elso do? I am leaning towards bringing the spare if for no other reason than to ward off bad juju.
I always take the spare, regardless of distance. Even if it is an 18 mile ride in a sprint, 9 miles would be a long walk back to the transition area. The spare and CO2 doesn’t way enough to worry me. If that is a concern, you may need to spend some time in the gym.

I didn’t even carry a spare at Half Cali. Tubulars tend to be far more puncture resistant than clinchers, and a real hassle to change, plus you can’t ride hard on them since they aren’t glued.
If I flat at an Oly or a sprint, the time to change the tire dooms me to MOP/BOP, so why bother. The only problem is that it might be a long walk back…
