Madness.
.

Glad he is (relatively) okay.

What’s worse is that this isn’t the first time this has happened. I’ve heard of at least one other instance within the past year or two.

This is the best I could find with some quick google-fu: https://gearjunkie.com/bike-path-nail-snare-spike

Reason #127 to ride indoors on the trainer. It’s world war 3 on cyclists out there folks, wake up and smell the coffee!

Oh. My. And I thought tacks on an Ironman bike course was pretty bad.

Wow…This makes me sick to my stomach. I can’t (A) why anyone would do this and (B) getting know off your bike like that. Not to mention that the children and families…Unbelievable.

Quite recent, around the start of the month … :frowning:

WD

We have had several instances of braided fishing line strung up across our local MTB park.

The stuff is as strong as wire and nearly invisible - especially at 30+km/h

This is a single use, MTB only area mind you. Walkers use it but at their own risk, no dogs allowed. There have been several run ins with two separate elderly gentlemen from the nearby neighborhood who are out walking their dogs and we have footage of one of them threatening to put up booby traps.

People scream at us to get off the road. We do that and retreat to our safe places that are meant just for us, and we can possibly be killed by some disgruntled fool. Cant win.

I’d ride on the trainer more but then I’d be at risk of maiming myself out of boredom.

I recall a similar incident reported on the local news … Vancouver BC area…older woman placing debris on MTB trails. IIRC she was caught on camera, charged, and convicted?? Sheesh…

No, thanks. While on trainers I fantasize about strangling myself with barbed wire.

You’re so hip and edgy…

You’re so hip and edgy…

Unless I’m confusing you with someone else, I think “everyone hide indoors” is your shtick in response to cycling injury/death threads? My shtick is “Hell no, I’m riding in the real world, with real people.” The idea of all cyclists retreating indoors is genuinely abhorrent to me on multiple levels.

Congratulations, you’re so courageous! I ride outdoors, but I limit it to the weekends in the morning when the roads are quiet (use trainer at night). Have you read the pain cave threads? Look at how popular the Peloton fitness model has become. I’m hardly alone in my logic. I agree with you that we shouldn’t pander to pernicious drivers and back woods hillbillies…but for you to dismiss the efficacy of using a trainer as both a vehicle for safety and convenience, is a little douchey!

I didn’t dismiss the efficacy of the trainer as a training tool. It’s perfectly great for people who make “pain caves” for convenient or because they enjoy riding indoors. I’m merely countering your initial assertions that it’s “word war 3” or that people who ride outdoors need to “wake up.”

Can we continue this conversation without you calling me things like “douche” and “hipster?” Or should we leave it at that?

I can look past your sophomoric grammar and d-canoe hipster ways, if you’re willing to overlook my hyperbole?

Because mountain biking is really good fun when you do it inside on the trainer???

There’s always an idiot.

Always…the roads are littered with them!

I can look past your sophomoric grammar and d-canoe hipster ways, if you’re willing to overlook my hyperbole?

Why is your statement punctuated with a question mark?

Just as mad as this attempted murder, was how quickly this thread devolved into petty arguments and nihilistic squabbling. Man I love you guys.
