Barack Obama Yesterday: "We're Better Off Today Than When I Took Over"

Smoking too much of that hopium, to steal John Kass’ word for what “hope and change” actually is. But the president did say it, hopium pipe or no:

Obama: We’re better off with my policies than four years ago

As Jim Geraghty says, it all depends on your definition of “better.” Do we have more jobs? No. Do we have lower unemployment? No. Do we have a more balanced federal budget? No. Do we have increasing household income? No.

Hope and change, baby!

Is this what “better off” means?:

The Obama administration tripled the US deficit in a single year.

The Obama deficit this year is projected to reach $1.299 trillion.

Obama is the worst jobs president since the Great Depression.

Federal non-defense spending soared under Barack Obama

Obama set records in the long-term unemployment rate.

U.S. debt was downgraded for the first time in a century.

Well, except for all those things above, I guess we’re better off.

Except for all those things above, of course.

By “we’re” he means he and Michelle. Hey, they are going to hit the lib gravy train in a year when he is out of office!

Do we have more peeps on WELFARE…YES!

Number of Americans on food stamps rises 8% to 45,800,000…

By “we’re” he means he and Michelle. Hey, they are going to hit the lib gravy train in a year when he is out of office!

I wonder how much of his appearance money we will hand out as he walks through the slums he created? 70%? 80? Hell no one needs that much money. 100k is plenty for him and he can give the rest away. Thats sharing the wealth right?

Man, you guys are such ungrateful plebeians. Much like Bill O’Reilly, Barack and Michelle are looking out for YOU. You don’t realize that? Shame on y’all!

Really, though: Obama can’t be that blind can he? Still, there’s no way he’s going to get up there and own up to the hash he’s made of things and nobody on the Democrat side, that wants to keep his or her job, will tell him what he needs to hear, so I predict we’re going to get a bunch of “Hey, he’s done the best he can with the terrible hand he was dealt” stuff. Right: Like no other president has been dealt a worse hand. Anyway, I’m reminded of what Robert A. Heinlein said about “bad luck” and societies that have undergone much of what we’re presently undergoing, and what Barack Obama says:

**Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as “bad luck.” **Robert A. Heinlein

**“We had reversed the recession, avoided a depression, gotten the economy moving again,” Obama told a crowd in Decorah, Iowa. “But over the last six months we’ve had a run of bad luck.” **Barack Obama 2011

Well at least we are not making new highs in food stamps.

Oops, shit, I guess I screwed that up didn’t I?

I really need to “get back on my game.”

Yeah, you been slipping a bit, Combat. Sumpthin’ wrong at home? Mind on other things? Don’t worry, though: Master Chief has been picking up the slack for you today. That man is ON FIRE (EN FUEGO!!!)!!!

Do you really think any of those stats would be different if McCain and Palin were running the show right now?

Lest we forget, the entire US financial system was on the brink of collapse when he took over. So its not like being better than that is such a large accomplishment.

Boy has he !!!

Bigtime: $3.88 gal/gas would not be the new normal. This, is the #1 Economy killer

How does the federal deficit have anything to do with my standard of living?

I’m better off than what I was during the Bush years. But I didn’t get fired from my airline job.

Lest we forget, the entire US financial system was on the brink of collapse when he took over. So its not like being better than that is such a large accomplishment.

Not true…the TARP was put into place that essentially brought the US financial system back from the brink before the election even took place. You can’t give Obama credit (or the blame, if you hate TARP) for bailing out the financial industry. That was done under Bush’s watch.

Spot

It’s good in my profession = Collections

I do everything, high balance dormant commercial judgments to chasing unemployed single mothers and the elderly. I look at credit reports all day long for all range of debtors across the country, richest to poorest and I have never seen anything like this before. When I am lucky enough to track someone down, they are flat ass broke “I am sorry” they say “I’ve never seen anything like this before”

A year ago I tracked down a lady in Buffalo who said her upstairs neighbor was feeding her kids ‘birdseed cereal’ because she could not afford to keep her cell phone on and buy food at the same time…opted to keep the phone on…for a job interview…

On a note of personal interest, but not in violation of the FDCPA, I asked her who she voted for = Obama. “I would not make the same vote today” she said. I talk to other debtors with way more coins than this lady but the core point is the same

So this is just one of many random deal(s) I see every single day.

Obama does not and never will understand the reality of life from the street. If he says he does, he’s a fucking liar.

Obama understands only the leisurely, presumptuous and condescending lifestyle of a professional academic/politician.

it’s that simple

Lest we forget, the entire US financial system was on the brink of collapse when he took over.

Thank you Obama.** **

Do you really think any of those stats would be different if McCain and Palin were running the show right now?\

The deficit wouldn’t be nearly as big, because the almost $1T stimulus bill never would have happened. Neither would Obamacare, which is going to cost the US hugely when employers stop providing health care plans for their low paid employees because the govt is going to pick up the tab for those employees.

Bigtime: $3.88 gal/gas would not be the new normal. This, is the #1 Economy killer

I thought massive bank fraud was what brought down the economy.

How is Obama causing gas prices to be higher? I’m genuinely asking, I’m not American and there may be some policy of his that caused this that I’m not aware of.

And BTW, I would rape and pillage to pay $3.88/gal. We’ve been hovering around $4.84 for years, peaked summer of 2008 around $5.67 and that’s still reasonably cheap compared to what Europeans pay, so quit yer whining. People here still drive plenty, and aside from it being a pain in the ass, it’s not labeled as an excuse for the poor economy. Actually to tell the truth, our economy is doing pretty damn good, largely because we didn’t let our banking system go down the same road as yours.

WOW, that is a really beautiful Heinlein quote. I checked around a bit, and it appears to come from Time Enough for Love. I should go back and reread it.

Perhaps when Obama said that we’re better off today, he was referring to the fact that today we’re almost three years closer to the next election.

The deficit wouldn’t be nearly as big, because the almost $1T stimulus bill never would have happened.

Do you really think the 1T stimulus wouldn’t have passed under McCain? I think you might have seen a slightly different version of the bill but I’d bet dollars to donuts it wouldn’t have been any smaller.
