I’ve picked up a set of base bars with the diacompe “bar end” brake levers. I’ve never taped a set of bars like this before. Anything special about doing it? Do you tuck tape into the end of the bar and treat the brake lever as a bar-end plug? Seems like it might also make sense to tape in reverse - ex: start mid bar and finish at the brake lever - as it seems that most of your hand movements would be towards the brake lever.
But I would not use the brake lever as a ‘plug’ to hold the tape–you want those brake levers securely inside the bar with metal-to-metal contact. those brake levers are very important at 40 - 60 km/h.
Typically, what most people do is put the brake levers on; tape starting just below the end of brake lever anchor; tape down a little past where your hands will go; when done, wrap the loose bar tape with plastic tape.
